More transparent clinical trials

Opinion - The Hindu (24th July)

The article applauds the recent decision of Drug Controller General of India(DCGI) to make the registration of clinical trials mandatory and the every clinical trial after June 15 will be in the Indian Council of Medical Research’s Clinical Trial Registry — India. The article then cites the advantages of such step- transparency of the whole process; safety of the volunteer in such trials; more accountability;minimization of biased reports by drug companies;and more importantly, this will lead to improved reporting standards of random clinical trials, and consequently, the reliability of results published in Indian medical journals.

Analysis of "Guarding against insidious erosion" - dated 27th July:

The Hindu : Opinion / Editorials : Guarding against insidious erosion

The article, first off, applauds the Madras high court's decision to revoke the ban on the publishing of articles about the Minister of Communications and also about the Minister's wife. The article mainly deals about the possible attempts to curb the freedom of press, and in turn, an open scrutiny of public officials, also speaks about the ruling of the American Supreme Court. The ruling mentions how restraints on press releases could cause more damage than allowing them to be published. Moreover, the article discusses certain principles under which such restraints could ever be imposed. The article is concluded by a praise for such acts which regain the press of its freedom to publish such articles and also the court's strong will to maintain freedom of public view and press

Regards,

harish

Analysis of "Configuring social transfers" - dated July 27th:

The Hindu : Opinion / Editorials : Configuring social transfers

The article highlights the dim scenario of the number of people slipping into poverty post the global economic crisis. The article then proceeds to explain how the efforts taken from 1990 to 2005 to reduce the number of people living in poverty have been nullified, and in fact, overtaken by the impact of the global economic crisis. The article offers a solution for Indian households by the scheme of conditional cash transfers, variants of which are already in place in many states across the country. Various examples of how such schemes have been successful and also certain conditions for their success have been discussed

Regards,

harish

Hi Puys,
Can you please elucidate today's Editorial in 'The Hindu' by Amartya Sen titled 'Justice and the World'.
I am not very clear about what Prof. Sen is trying to say.
