‘Nuclear test will have serious consequences’

Summary : The Article talks about the Nuke deal and the after-effects of non-conformation of the terms of the deal. The passage starts bluntly quoting Ms Condoleeza rice, highlighting the consequences of India going ahead with the nuke test in future - specifically mentioning, stoppage of co-operation from Washington and imposition of several sanctions. These terms are referred to as "killer amendments". It also mentions that it has requested to pass the terms of the deal without any changes and though , some senators would have reservations, those would be addressed as long as India sticks to the plan and agree to the Non-Nuclear Moratorium ( the time frame during which no nuclear tests can be done).
It seems to be a warning letter to Indian Govt, with its emphasis on termination of co-operation, in case of Nuclear proliferation, but in the light of reassurances, being given to the Senate Members, the tone could be attributed to calming the nerves of members, by use of strong words against the ones involved.

This is my first post here on this thread, so not sure what else to put. One more additional info, I was listening to the news today and it said that Bush has agreed to take off that clause which bars India from Testing for the designated moratorium , In that light this passage is irrelevant.
Cheerz.

Link : The Hindu : Opinion / Leader Page Articles : Are American writers too insular for Nobel?

Title : Are American writers too insular for Nobel ?
Summary : The article debated about the recent remarks by Mr. Engdahl, a jury member of the Swedish Academy ,which gives Nobel prize in the field of literature.
The article starts with the remark by the jury member where he states that American writers are too insular & parochial and they don't translate much their writings into other languages. The author gives many references from blogs , books & writers which point out to the fact that writings need not be universal and connection with the regional & local culture can also make the writing universal.
