I have observed one thing through some of the mock exams I have taken - Elimination technique often works well in VA. However, it also requires an above average vocab.

About RC, I think that one must be very careful while selecting the passage. Looking at the questiond first really helps. One must select a passage has more of direct questions. Because, at least with me, in case of indirect questions, it happens always that more than one alternatives appear correct. Tickmarking important parts of a passage while reading it also helps.

Cheers.

i'm agree with ur analysis
knocking out the inappropriate and marking important words/sentence/phrase of para helps in marking right answer

In my mock paper for verbal i found it is quite helping

people who have good reading habits will always do better in this section, is what i believe. Of course, with extra effort, others can also come at par. My preparation for GRE really helped me a lot for the CAT 07 verbal section. I generally found that RC's were easier to do than ordering or finish the passage questions. Only, u need to have good reading speed. It also helps if you are aware of the RC q's first and then figure out where to look while reading the passage.

hey ppl,
TCYonline is a really cool website with many post-years papers and other segmented tests. it's good practice..

also, one definite way to improve your vocab is to hit the dictionary. Groan all u want but nothing beats it!
chalk down 5-10 words each day, more if u dare :P, and don't just stop there, but try to use those words in sentences you make on your own. It really helps in remembering the words since you use it in a context. Also, if you want to make it more fun, use the words learned and write a small para. using them. It will take more time than usual may be, but the work pays off!

Kudos.

most of d people out here r laying prime stress on vocabulary...
but let me tell u the cat question paper is really not concerned abt ur vocab...but prime emphasis on reasoning n logical ability as is evident in ifj questions and paragraph jumbling...even the rc's hav moved over the years to more analytical n judemental quetions...
so as per my experience goes work on ur reading speed it will help u a lot even if u want to refer back to d passage you will hav time wid u...
n more important concentrate on understanding the context of the rc's and questions asked there after.
For other questions learn different tricks n start applying them to questions n practice as much as u can...
