Apart from upstream/downstream there is another pattern - Logical, Far fetched, Contradictory & Irrelevant.

In questions of upstream/downstream.....
we have to read the main statement given and tell about the question statements that what they are :

1) if main statement can be derived from question statement ( question statement is an upstream argument (represented by U))

2) if question statement can be derived from main statement ( question statement is a downstream argument (represented by D))

3) if question statement supports the main statement( question statement is a lateral argument (represented by L))

4) if question statement is not relevant to main statement( question statement is an irrelevant argument)) (represented by I)

Varun.

Re: Upstream/Downstream Questions in verbal - cat 2009 - 15-08-2009, 02:53 PM

Q1:
MAIN STATEMENT :

In a television interview last night , Mr.Chidambaram ,the finance minister ,made it clear that the government had identified infrastructure as one of the weaknesses ,which had emerged in the economy during the five years of reform.

1) Infrastructure is to get a big boost in the budget to be presented by Mr.Chidambaram.

2) Infrastructure -particularly power and roads- has been neglected by successive governments over the last two decades.

3)Television interviews should not be used as a forum for complex economic discussions.

4)The economic reforms, which invigorated several sectors of the economy ,had not done much to stimulate infrastructure development.

options:

a) UDIL
b) DULI
c) DUIL
d) UDLI

PS: dont quote whole question, just refer it as Q1
