Myself Jitin Bahal, BTech in EC and presently working as a Software Quality Analyst in Gurgaon. Decided to Bell the CAT this year and I am sure that with the help of Pagalguys(including me) and our devotion we all will meet at IIMA. Best of Luck.....

Now lets come to the Preparation. In 2004 I attended Professional Tutorials(PT) and now I have started Vocab and DI. As i m working, i try to work out on Vocab in the office hours and then DI after reaching home. But i m facing a problem and need suggestions from u all.
I have learnt a few words and i noticed that i was able 2 remember their meaning only if choices are given.

Plz tell me ways so that i can remember them even if choices are not there.

i think guys only mugging the vocab is not going to help in cat..so plzz send such thing in which along with vocab its usage also given.i will be very thankful for tat.

well, VA was the section that basically saved my neck in CAT 06, unlike what happened to many other pals of mine. i dont claim to be great at english, but i've been a voracious reader since childhood; not just fiction, but i also used to be interested in a lot of abstract topics, heavily into victorian lit, etc.

anyway, coming to the topic. i my opinion, the best way to improve one's vocabulary is to NOT just make a list of sophisticated words and mug em up. its a somewhat shallow method.

i would rather rsuggest - etymology- understanding of the word roots. yes yes, i know it sounds like too complicated a method... is it worth that much effort? do i have the sort of time? understandable doubts. but it surely helps in the long run.

first step: take Word Power by Norman Lewis - i have a feeling somebody should have suggested it already, coz its so good. anyway, even people writing CAT 07 can start offf with it now, its not too late. more importantly, follow the instructions in the book.

the books asks u to write down words (like primary school kids?), to handle it in regular periods etc. all this might sound silly, but please do it! dedicate, say, 10 min to norman lewis every day or alternate day adn i have seen it dramatically improve people's vocabulary. this method demands a lot of discipline, but like i said, it proves worthy of it.

PS: another book - Baron's- is goot for GRE, not CAT. Norman Lewis is especially good for average and a lil bit above avg vocabed people.
