CAT 2009 EU-RC Thread - 12-01-2009, 10:08 AM

Hi puys,

Season 08 is over with FMS yesterday. Hope you have done well in all the exams. Those who want to give it a shot next year in season 2009, welcome. We need to bell this CAT which we have made a monster of!

Every one can pour in as how to go with this one highly deceptive section of CAT, which often mekes puys suffer inspite of scoring high in other two sections. We can do it if we do have a proper planning and if we go by each and every aspect of this section.

I request VA experts(read: Those who have scored high in verbal) to advise puys here as to how to score high in this section. Also, I request them to suggest as to what preparation is required for mastering this section.

Puys, we can make it only if we conquer this demon and if we co-operate with each other, if we share our own practice techniques, we can overcome this nightmare of many.

So, start posting your queries concerning this section.
Senior puys, we constantly need your help, so please try to drop in with your ideas and suggestions from time to time.:rockedov:

Re: CAT 2009 EU-RC Thread - 12-01-2009, 02:09 PM

My query is, with IIMs increasing number of questions this year for VA, doesn't it mean that a high score will be needed in this section to fetch a high percentile ? Also, even if a person gets a 97+ in this section and <90%ile in remaining two, this alone can pull the OA upwards. So is it the fact that IIMs are taking this alone section as the decider for CAT( in sense of playing a more important role) ?

I think i need to concentrate more on RC and my analysing skills. I need more and more and more... practice and I have decided to read 1 novel per week. I have cancelled my subscription of outlook(as they give 40% of their pages to ads) and started the same for Frontline(some really good discussion over there). I have also decided to read those topics a lot which bore me in the exam or which have a philosophical touch. Current affairs and the economist are also on the list.

So basically I am going to see to it this section doesn't become my nemesis anymore...twice struck by it....2006 saw me with 1 mark...this time 65%ile.. :( (Note that 2006 mein my QA+LRDI accuracy was 95% and this it was 100%)

Any suggestions puys?

I had clearly specified in your LR-DI thread, that you are old enough on PG to know where exactly to open these threads.

Take this as a final warning: Open threads in relevant section.

Re: CAT 2009 EU-RC Thread - 19-01-2009, 04:27 PM

Its better if we plan how to begin and then we move ahead step by step.
going by the patter CAT has shown it can be judged that understanding is more important than speed.
We must begin with grammer basics but yes we should continue with our reading practice. If nothing is available just start with editorial part of any newspaper. Also write the summary of all of them which would help to retain the data as we read and help in RC.
