GRAMMAR for CAT 08 and beyond - 26-02-2008, 07:03 PM

Hi Puys,

I have started this thread with the intension to make it as one stop destination for all grammar related issues be it lessons, exercises or doubts....

Grammar is one of the major horizontal on which the whole verbal section of any exam rests..be it Sentence corection,Usage,Jumbled,FIJ's...nything....and its beyond doubt that it's one of the worst nightmares for any aspirant be it CAT,XAT,GMAT...

our modulus operandi will be basic lessons, exercises and then advanced topics....

there will be no rushing through the topics...we will start from scratch and as we proceed we will continously keep a guage on our preperation.....

I very well know that i am not as good in grammar as Wren or Martin so i need continuos feedbacks from everone..lets all participate and make this thread as one of the best online repository on GRAMMAR....

hoping for an active participation frm all u puys....

regards
Tarun

Re: GRAMMAR for CAT 08 and beyond - 26-02-2008, 07:50 PM

PUYS,I have got some very old book for grammer, it is in 1960s and is in very bad condition, well, i have got xeroxed it fortunately. I dont remember the name as xerox doesnt have first page of it, but title is "Everyday grammer usage". I will post the details tomorrow, also possibility of getting this book, else i will scan it and upload to PG. The reason i am telling this is, in CAT 2005 i scored mere 54%ile in English, but after using this book i scored 97%ile in CAT 2006 and my grammer improved like anything else. So hold on guys, i will upload it soon..

Guys don't waste so much time on planning. Just start. One can reffer GMAT material for grammer that is more than enugh. You can get from 5GB of free space to upload and share your files, photos, videos and music - eSnips.com " Manhattan GMAT" grammer pdf. There are 8 basic rules to be followed but you never know anything can come in CAT like how last year it came it was damm simple grammer one can could cracked with basic knowledge.

hi neetu,
u have a point but think in the most generic terms...everybody is not as genious as u r..may be the 8 rule u reffered can lead them in more confused state compared to where they r rght now....there are puys who are frm hindi medium back grnd.....there are puys who due to lack of english conversation dont exaclty know what grammar actually means...this thread is for them...
and its very strange to know that a VA section exists without grammar...we are not discussing grammar to solve questions....we are discussing to make our verbal strong...
and if somebody says that one can clear a VA section without the knowledge of grammar or by knowing 8 rules...hats off to him/her...
and as a matter of fact...clearing CAT is not a sprint..it requires some grnd wrk...
i say this affirmatively bcos i followed all this and was successful in achieving 99.49 percentile in VA this yr compared to 83 the yr before..
