Re: GRAMMAR for CAT 08 and beyond - 18-07-2008, 10:02 PM

Most of the questions put by me are rather simple. Almost everyone gave correct response to the questions, and therefore it seems there is no need to give elaborate explanation to each correct or incorrect sentence. Owing to my busy schedule, I am trying to avoid writing elaborate explanation of all correct sentences. But, I’ll give if told to do so for any question. And I request you all guys to post lot of Grammar questions and mind blowing concepts.

cheers!!

My take:

1. I would rather play than work.
2. He once met me in Kolkata; I have not seen him since then. (not sure about then)
3. The river has overflowed its banks. (The water has overflowed river banks) (not sure )
4. He has ordered a pizza.(correct)

Fill in the blanks

5. It is years since I have seen him ( we generally use "last" time saw him. but as it is "since" i think have seen will come) (not sure again )

mejogi-GM-Q:5-PG:69

correct, if incorrect

1. I would rather play than work.
2. He once met me in Kolkata; I have not seen him since.
3. The river overflowed its banks. / The river has overflown its banks.
4. He has ordered a pizza. (correct)

Fill in the blanks

5. It is years since I…saw...him (see)

I am a little confused, according to me it should be- It has been years since I saw him.
Am I right here?

@ raviiet

Hi, there are many in market.
You can follow Wren & Martin. But, it is bit boring. You can do by Wren & Martin, if you can segregate those topics which are asked most in competitive examination from it and focus on the Usage Grammar. This is quite not easier task and takes time. I have seen in market many grammar books, which not only teach usage grammar lucidly but also makes reading interesting by providing good examples and exercises.

By the way, besides W & M, I follow 2 more grammar books, which are in poor condition, on Usage grammar.

And last but not the least important suggestion, simply follow this thread.

cheers !!
