I thought only many times and many a time are correct until i saw an article in hindu recently which started with many a times .So i think even this many a times is correct at some situation(or some situations ??).if someone knows the answer pl let me know.
and one more thing. which one of the following is correct.
If someone knew it pl let me know or
if someone knows it pl let me know.(I have thought of this confusion many a time ) Quote:

For the second question,
If someone knew it... is wrong.
Here, you want your answer in the near future. So, if someone 'knew' it in the past, it doesn't help. If someone knows it now, that's the person you want! | | | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to sumitrocks For This Useful Post:

eg
since he knew about this , he comes forward to answer this question .
one can answer only if he knew it already right ? Pl clarify me

But, if he is coming forward in the present, you'll have to use something like, "Since he knows the answer, he will come forward to answer it."
The sentence you quoted, uses past tense and present tense together, so it is incorrect. The first sentence that I wrote, has consistent usage of past tense.
The second sentence seems to use present tense and future tense together, but actually, the present tense there 'he knows' is not just the immediate present, but an everlasting thing. So, this sentence is correct. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to sumitrocks For This Useful Post:

Some thing from my side
Many a soldier is equivalent to many soldiers, but this takes plural verb and that takes singlar verb.
Many soldiers are fighting.
Many a soldier is fighting. Both sentences convey the same meaning.
there is nothing like many a times.
Did u notice use of this and that in above sentence? | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to vars.jat For This Useful Post:

Hi,puys see the first line of the last paragraph of the article whose link is given below The Hindu : Entertainment Chennai / Cinema : Era of special effects and spectacles
I went through dictionary and learned that spectacles means a pair of glasses whereas spectacle means a visually striking performance or display.
The spectacles word is used in that article. Is it correct ?? If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning ......-- M.G. | | | | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to mejogi For This Useful Post: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
