My take:

pick out the errors and correct 'em.mostly are based on vocabs

1.
I wouldn't go as far as that but the main thing is that I can make myself understood in most situations.
2. Yes, that's important because if you find yourself in a difficult situation, you can talk yourself out of it.
3. Can you remember any particular incident when your knowledge of the language was a real help?
4. Yes, we were driving our car through a forest and suddenly the engine stopped.
5. Unfortunately this happened near a signal that warned you that it was dangerous to park there.

1. I wouldn't go as far as that but the main thing is that I can make myself understood in most situations.(we never use as futher/farther as)
2. Yes, that's important because if you find yourself in a difficult situation, you can talk yourself out of it.(when we are in a difficult situation we can get out of it by talking with aptness, not by speaking with aptness.hence talk is the best one to be used here.)
3. Can you remember any particular incident when yourknowledge of the language was a real help?(knowing is an adjective whereas knowledge is a noun which means to have aquaintance with something, hence it fits best over here.)
4. Yes, we were driving our car through a forest and suddenly the engine stopped.(The two verbs cease and stop are similar in meaning but have different uses. The verb cease on its own refers to an abstract noun usually as in: The noise ceased.here noise is the abstract noun. And obviously with something like an engine, you would have to use a verb that doesn't have an abstract subject.)

5. Unfortunately this happened near a sign that told you that it was dangerous to park there.(signal means anything which serves to indicate and sign means the indication itself which is like an object.though signal can also be used as a noun ,sign is the correct entry)
