medulla-PC3-2/7/2008-pg98-answer - 03-07-2008, 07:40 PM

Hi Puys,

Looking at all your answers i see I am not the only one!!!
Ok.. The puys who have given right answer do not have a correct explanation (most of them)

The last line about a para completion it need not be always conclusion or the continuation but I think we will have to see the tone, style etc.

The answer is a....

The explanation is: Choices b,c,d and e seem to question the effectiveness of Mahatma Gandhi in the chief's role. The tone of the passage is not skeptical. In fact the writer is inspired about his visual. Hence a is the best choice which continues the imagination and asks specific questions on the Mahatma's reaction of behaviour without doubting his effectiveness.

Let us discuss this question Puys. I will post one more question today post 10 pm

Hi Gullooo,

The question was discussed long back on next page. Just skip one post in between.

Hi Puys,

Now this is the simpler question.
Try the following questions:

Q1] Used to anti-climaxes as we are, the expulsion of the Tainted Ten from Parliament is, no doubt, a climactic moment in India's parliamentry history. For too long, an extreme form moral relativism was endagering our fait in Parliament. The swift move against the "accused" recovered that ebbing faith._________________

a. The Initial reaction to the expose of the cash-for-questions scandal had been refreshing reassuring.

b. Across party lines, there was disappointment, but also stem reactions, with statements made by party stalwarts that action would be taken against the MP's caught on camera receiving bribes.

c. What was disappointing was the lack of a knee-jerk denial.

d. Effectively, political parties were willing to start on the premise that the Ps might actually be guilty of corruption.

e. Some felt that it was an impulsive decision.

All the Best !!!

tough choice between a) and d)

But I am inclined to go for d) as it carries over the fact that it is historic. The parties were willing to accept that corruption was there in politics

medulla-PC4-3/7/2008-pg101

Answer: option(a)

The mood seems upbeat in the passage. (b) conveys a hint of -ve reaction and lots of new info. (c) is -ve mood. (d) seems irrelevant and (e) is again -ve. So (a) is the only one which seems to maintain the same mood.

From the last line of the passage, we can sense that the author is really glad, that some action has been taken against the accused MPs... Thus, in continuation to that, option A seems the most appropriate choice.. It hence 'recovers the ebbing faith'..

i will go with option (a) seems like it is the only option that goes with the tone of the author who is delighted with the way the politicians have responded.......

going by the positive tone of the passage, A seems to fit in best here. The other closest, D, ends the paragraph on a more neutral note.

medulla-PC4-3/7/2008-pg101

Confused between a and d. Though tone of the passage is upbeat , but in the end somehow I feel that author is taking us into the history part. And moreso, a doesnt can be a part of the para but doesnt fully continue these lines. Hence I'd go with d.
