Also a co-relation of sleeping fifteen hours a day a reason because of which they move infrequently.
Regarding the parallel construction of the above sentence is an example of participal phrases where there should logical continuation of the sentence.
ex. The rain continued to fall, providing water for the thristy plants but flooding the streets as well.
Here we should be a bit cautious so as to avoid becoming a victim of superficial parallelism by assuming all verbs in a sentence must be parallel. Only the structures that are logically parallel must be structurally parallel. Which was not the case in the above sentence.
I hope i have cleared your doubt but if you still have an issue i am open for a discussion.

Hi parag,
your explanation sounds logical ,especially, that rain example made things clear.
But then, would the following sentence be wrong?
"Found throughout Central and South America, the sloth hangs from trees by its long rubbery limbs, sleeps fifteen hours a day and moves so infrequently enough that two species of algae grow on its coat and between its toes"

Yes, this sentence would still be wrong because " infrequently enough that" is the incorrect idiomatic expression. The idiomatically correct phrase is "so infrequently that"......
