Re: Sentence Correction for CAT 2008 - 29-03-2008, 08:58 AM

1. c
Choices a, b and e lack parallel structure; parallel nouns should be used: years, desire, and debut. Choice d unnecessarily changes the infinitive to become.

2. B
Choices a, c, and e imply that driving a car at any speed is speeding. Choice d is wrong, because the subjunctive mood is required in the if clause.

3. C
Choices a and b contain a faulty comparison. The computer is a modern machine, and so the word other must be included. In choices d and e, the word has is unnecessary and awkward.

4.B
Due to should not be used in place of the compound proposition because of. Choice c has an error in agreement between the singular verb ( was) and the compound subject ( technology and capital ). Choice d is wordy and awkward.
