[PaGaLGuY CAT 2007 Series] Decoding Fact - Inference - Judgement type questions - 11-10-2007, 05:05 PM

The verbal ability section of the Common Admissions Test (CAT) 2006 paper shocked everyone as there were only three types of questions : Reading Comprehension passage, Passage completion (logical continuation) and Fact-Inference-Judgement (FIJ) questions. The all time favourites of the CAT paper-setters: vocabulary based questions, usage based questions, grammar based questions and not to forget paragraph jumbles, which had been regular features of CAT, were not touched at all. Though this may not be indicative of the next CAT pattern, but it sends a strong message that one may have to be mentally prepared for surprises.

Here is a tutorial designed to help you get over the fear of FIJ questions.

Click here to download the decoding FIJ tutorial

(or right click and 'Save as...' before opening it in Adobe Reader)

The tutorial is a shareware item. Which means that if you like it, you promise to share it with your friends who are also preparing for CAT. But if you happen to really adore it, then you promise to buy us and the Endeavor team a beer someday!

I agree with you on qs 2.

Though for qs 1 and 5, option 1 flows bettter ..but they are real close ones

Not convincing..I know....But I got answers as 1,3,1 for 1,2 and 5.
I wonder if there can be any logical explanations for these questions

Cheers!

hmmm...was that the only reason u chose those options or did u see any thing else?

for question 1, the last line talks about utility...option 3 talks about what the poor in india need...that's why i chose that option.

for question 5, the paragraph starts by saying that indians are disappointed in their beaurocracy...then it goes on to explain that it was forced on indians by nehru....option 5 gives the current feeling of indians towards democracy...hence i chose that

can u please point out the error in my logic?

hii i also got the answers as

1) 3
2) 3
5) 2

reasons

1) i think 1 is a little far fetched It may be true but 3 provides complies with wat we wants to say

2) 1 option to some extent is stated in the para itself so just continued with the flow of passage (options were closed so not that much convince with my logic also

5) he is comparing the past beliefs with the present situation (atleast it seemd so gng by the tone) nd also development was much more general covering their failure in all aspects rather than only bussiness

Please pour with other interpretatns ....

1. Yes, utility is mentioned. But thats there in the 1st options as well!!
But I thought that the author is trying to give an example here. Now that he has given the example, he has to get back to the main isse (which we dont know till now). Now between options 1 and 3, I think 1 better serves as the main issue ....option 1

5. Here he talks about civil service was needed. then a BUT...thats why I thought he should talk about not so satisfactory civil service....option 1

Cheers!

PS: I am not from Endeavor. Also, i am not an expert. I can be 100% wrong here. But this is what I think

Unhappy Is that PDF is posted to make us puzzled????? - 26-10-2007, 11:33 AM

Just Look at the first question, they have not discussed the 5 th option, that why it is wrong..They just have stopped at option 4.......... And see the second question, they have not yet seen what is the option numbers. They have discussed option 2 in option 3 and vice versa. So, confusing... I thing that PDF is to make us puzzled.....And at last of the PDF about the options which are wrong you all know about it.......................Who is depending totally, on that PDF to understand sentence completing and FIJ problems, God will help them. I have found a lot of mistakes in R.S Agarwal's DS section....... And even in IMS tutorials too. So, now I have understood that why the CAT is so tough. Because, most of us learn at about 70% wrong things and appear for CAT.............he he he.......Good luck. Hey buddies.........Do mistake, learn wrong things and get huge negetive marks in all the section in the CAT......... That I am not telling....Those authors want us to get.............He he he So, friends be careful about mistakes. Because, it carries one third of negative marks and so dont learn wrong things............STEEL
