Re: Sentence Correction for CAT 2007 - 25-01-2008, 02:35 PM

Guyz I can explain the reason of some the answers (those of which I knw)
Here's my explanation.
100. Here is a question on use of idioms.
Now people sometimes confuse between two idioms.
Distinguish X from Y
Distinguish between X and Y.

We use Distinguish X from Y when we want to distinguish two similar things. For example, we want to distinguish two similar things like original signature from fake signatures.

and We use Distinguish between X and Y when we want to distinguish two disparate things like apple and oranges.

As in this case both of them are drugs,so these are similar things.hence option should be A.

102. This is a classic case of improper use of pronoun. If you read the sentence well, then you will find it refers to psychopath. Actually psychopath is a TERM(a phenomenon), and here we are referring the term as a person. So, this is not possible.
what we mean to say here is the below equality is not possible:

Psychopath(a term)= A person
hence this sentence is incorrect.
Therefore the correct sentence should be
it refers to someone who is

hence , correct option is D

107. This question is a classic example of lack of parallelism.
It states that if two clauses/phrases/verb are maintaining some series ,the third,fourth,fifth... clause/phrase/verb should also maintain the same sequence. What I mean to say here is:

I like to swim,to run,and to dance---is a correct sentence
I like to swim,run,and dance------is a correct sentence
I like to swim,run,and to dance---is incorrect
I like to swim,to run,and dance--is incorrect

So, if you see question no 107
You will find that the third clause starts with basing which is incorrect.hence the correct option should be D or E. D is more logical and hence it is correct.
So, Correct option is D

105. If you read the sentence properly, you will find that the sentence is talking about only one emotion and that is the anger for repeatedly raising the issue. So, in this case , the verb which we should use is was. Hence, the correct option is B.

Well Puys, I have tried my best to illustrate the reason behind.if anyone can provide explanations for the other questions also.that will be helpful

so cheers
