1. To take to heels = to run away.
2. To take up the cudgels= to defend, to fight for somebody's claim

here goes some collected idioms of mine....... i think u will enjoy......

1.Buy time : to get more time

I managed to buy time since the exams postponed.

2. take a knock: to be affected very much

His reputation took a knock when cat results were out.

3. when it comes to crunch : a situation in which you have to take serious decision.

When it comes to crunch, I have analyze my pros and cons sagaciously.

4. church time: Sunday morning.

You have to be there by the church time.

5. be in cahoots: to plan to do sth bad and secretly.

Someone in FBI was in cahoots with criminals.

6. let sleeping dogs lie: not to talk about things that caused problem in past.

My parents never talk about my last cat results because they think that it is better to let the sleeping dogs lie.

7. have your nose in a book: to keep reading all the time.

I have to keep my nose in the book for next three months till cat exam.

8. mighty oak from little arcon: a large organization was small when it began.

Here r a few idioms from me...

A day late and a dollar short :-If something is a day late and a dollar short, it is too little, too late.

A lick and a promise:-If you give something a lick and a promise, you do it hurriedly, most often incompletely, intending to return to it later

A Lost Ball in the High weeds:-
someone who does not know what they are doing, where they are or how to do something.

catch/have someone dead to rights
to have enough proof to show that someone has done something wrong.
usage :
The drunk addict was caught dead to rights by the alcohol detector .

before you can say Jack Robinson
we say that when somthing happens very suddenly
usage :
I asked him to apply brakes but before you could say Jack Robinson , he bumped against the wall .
