Word List-Vocabulary building -
27-05-2006, 12:42 AM
Hi,
I am posting a thread specially for vocabulary building. I believe "Slow and Steady Wins the Race".
While going through word list I ound just to cram is not enough. So I figured out a new way. I pick a word go online to m-w.com (Merriam Webster). It gives word's meaning, synonyms, verb, noun forms, sentence uses and antonyms.
So with 5 words I get atleast 15 new words.
I request all the serious participants to post atleast 5 words every day. Imagine atleast 5 guys posting 5 words daily we have 75 words ( word's meaning, synonyms, verb, noun forms, sentence uses and antonyms.) every day. 75*15=1125 in a month . It will also help us in other exams. I will post everyday and expect contribution from all of you.
Best,
Globemart

Oxymoron- A rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are combined, as in a deafening silence and a mournful optimist, conjoining contradictory terms.

Dear gaurav and Hedger,
Tell me is it a crime to post a thread or you want everybody to stick to a particular thread. And Mr. gaurav I searched the forum very well and came through your so mentioned thread-- you know what I find somebody is dancing with his cartoons/ some one is trying to tell what he did last night. Man atleast I will try to benefit as much person as I can with posting every day some good words.
So if you people are not comfortable with this thread go to someone else or start a new one.
Best
Abhishek

Hi Globemart,
Why are you repeating the words that have already been posted and could you plz. explain the meaning of the word "Quid pro quo"and "squid pro row".....didnt make sense to me at all.
acc. to me Gaurav and Hedger are right..opening a thread should atleast serve to the purpose and a thread already exsists for this........i dont see any difference between word game and word list.....except for u copy-pasting the same matter.

friend..
no it is not a crime to start a thread............neither it is to understand how the forum and people work here at PG..............!!!
those cartoons(i call these animated emotions!!) as u said is the usp of this forum where u can express ur feelings n thoughts.....................while u communicate......so amidst hundreds of serious posts if there are few that r informal or personal in nature is coz there exists a comoroderie among members here...............!!
neither gaurav or urs truly...have any problem..........!
go ahead with ur stance ...hope u get company here............and satiability of knowledge..!

I appreciate your intention to share with the community, but as Lifehedger so very rightly pointed out, its the spirit of the community that shows thro the various threads here....Am sure if you stick around a bit and post actively, you too shall realize...And as regards multiple threads on same topics, duplicity doesn't help anyone
Cheers
