Ladies Coupe by anita nair - Poignant. Its a tale of a single 45 yr old woman called Akhila , her trials and tribunals in life. how she breaks out of the prescribed image of a 45 year old spinster by travelling all by herself in a ladies coupe . it is here where she gets to know four other women , their stories each unique in themselves. good read yet made me wonder why do books by indian authors tend to leave a bitter aftertaste. Nonetheless good read.

The emperor's new mind - a tale of modern physics loved it !

English august - upmanyu chatterjee - one of the best books i have read so far which portrays the change in the new generation of indians. how the change creeps in. what are factors which bring in these changes . most interestingly the demographic contrast in the society is put forward by a nothing but a brat is a fine journey.

The impressionist - Hari Kunzru - extremely witty narration of how a white skinned half Indian boy gets disowned by the high cast only to live as a cross dresser in a brothel. His struggles to live a fine life, not entirely moral or ethical but a life made of choices , a life of a survivor despite what fate brought for him.

I am reading A fine balance by rohinton mistry...so far so good!

Just finished reading 'If God Was a Banker' by Ravi subramanyam

Interesting read........

All I say is that it - even if 10% of what he has written about the high-flying careers in this corporate world, then I believe it nothing but the hell!

Although the book is more like Hindi Cinema with all possible masala and item numbers, but still worth a read........it gives an insight of the dirty corporate world.

Recently finished An American Brat by Bapsi Sidhwa...

It is a novel by a Pakistani author and is very well written... Book is set in late 70s and talks about America from a visitor's perspective who has been there for the first time..

Overall a nice read...

put up the review at An American Brat Book Review.

I simply used to bunk the lectures. I was one of those who had a consistent record of being in the defaulter's list. Books were only meant to be at home.

Right now I'm reading Adventures of Feluda by Satyajit Ray. There are two volumes of it. Feluda is a young sleuth, he solves cases with his wit like tintin. It's a nice read. I would recommend it to everyone if you are looking for some recreation.

@sarsij
thanks for clarifying on "If God Was a Banker".
There seems to be a lot of debate going on over it in this thread.

Well I read that few weeks back...

what I see is that after 5 Point Someone every Indian author is tryin to come up with a similar stories....
They try to bring the real picture of the things in a humourous way...n coz of this suddenly there is an upsurge in number of Indian authors9esp from IITs and IIMs)

By the way I wd recommend that for everyone...esp MBA aspirants with high dreams....

Just finished The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Awesome is the word for that! The story, the narration, the character sketches, everything is just perfect. The only thing i did not totally agree was the way he got out of his guilt. Read the book to find out more..

Its a must read and can comply with your moods any and everytime.

Waiting to lay my hands on another book..
Till then..

happy reading

Shivani

I am currently reading "India after Gandhi" and I would say it is an amazing book-the way post independence India is brought out By Guha is mesmeric.
