Hi..
I've read some of these books and hope u'll enjoy them too...
1) an unaccustomed Earth- Jhumpa Lahiri
2) The Fountainhead - Ayn Rand
3) Catch 22 - Joseph Heller..
These books demand a fair amount of time as they contain really abstrusive stuff.... a good read before CAT '08.

Finally, I finished reading Adams' Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.
Had a mishap along the way (the ebook was incomplete) but it was worth the effort to locate and read the rest. Adams' style and humour are astounding and make an excellent read.
I have always been amazed at how well he manages to personify inanimate objects, events and give a strong thought process to an animal.
One of the greats.
There was old, scuffed, black-and-white checked linoleum on the floor, a small basic bath, well cleaned but with very elderly stains and chips in the enamel, and also a small basic basin with a toothbrush and toothpaste in a Duralex beaker standing next to the taps. Screwed into the probably priceless panelling above the basin was a tin mirror- fronted bathroom cabinet. It looked as if it had been repainted many times, and the mirror was stained round the edges with condensation. The lavatory had an old-fashioned cast-iron chain-pull cistern. There was an old cream-painted wooden cupboard standing in the corner, with an old brown bentwood chair next to it, on which lay some neatly folded but threadbare small towels. There was also a large horse in the room, taking up most of it.
Cheers. | | | | | The Following User Says NO Thank You to the_egonomist For This Un-useful Post: | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to the_egonomist For This Useful Post:

hi...
you've stated that "he manages to personify inanimate objects...".
please don't mistake me but don't you think you are being redundant?i.e.., obviously, only inanimate objects can be personified...it was merely sufficient if you said that "he manages to personify objects.." Quote:

Well, for a change i bought campus story "Mediocre but arrogant" by Abhijit Bhaduri. Book is around 265 pages long, which i felt is bit stretched. It could have been better off by keeping the story to 200 odd pages as many a things are repeated or told in a diff way. I think editor of this book did a good job of making it fat. Though wit, humour of campus engage you to read but still its not enough. My take is, one can surely avoid this book. I think i will catch the chetan bhagat's latest for now. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to razabpn For This Useful Post:

I would suggest 'Outsider' by Albert Camus as a must read. Camus was a French-Algerian writer, and a follower of the philosophy of existentialism. It's a pretty short read, and it worked wonders for me in my IIM-L interview.. CAT '07 - 99.96 %ile

i will recommend
1. catcher in the rye by j.d.salinger
2. illusions by richard bach 3. the kite runner by khaled hosseini. i read his second book a thousand splendid suns, it was also quiet good. "As long as you're going to be thinking anyway, think big."
