Ok this is the first time ever that I'm starting a thread, and believe me I looked around to see if there was another one of this kind.
Well just wanted to gauge the kind of strength PG has in Cochin... maybe we can get together and play cricket on the Marine Drive grounds.(k the purpose of the thread is pretty obvious now isn't it)
So PG Cochin Junta pour in...if any of you do exist.

for the lack of original thought , here's a quote:
"the net sum of intelligence in universe is constant, only the population keeps increasing"
so dont despair if there r only 2 intellectual PGs in cochin , if nt cricket we can atleast play badminon. . Never underestimate the unpredictability of stupidity - snatch

Bhaiyyaaaa....
Ahemm badminton it is then, I'm to be found at the tennis courts of the RSC from 630 onwards, they have quite a few baddycourts too.
You bring the rackets and I'll bring a bucketful of shuttle-cockiness, and we shall duel to the end... that is until they have to mop the floors.
An introduction would help in this endeavour btw.
I go by the name Johan, presently mooching off daddy dearest, will be employed with a financial firm here in the near future.

.....m planning to give CAT this year though hvnt started ne prep yet....
actually somebody once told me that--- CAT prep follows gaussian distribution.....kind of inverted bell structure..goes up...peaks...comes down. so its important that u peak @ right time...dont gt too worked up as u wd loose steam....----took his words too seriously i guess...so do u also plan to appear fr CAT ? Yeah 630 AM it was good sir, but I've been stiffed by my ride so it looks like I'll be going in only around 8 today. You in CUSAT or some other college here?
Heh Sridhar seems to be the poor Cochin man's answer to a multiplex, not counting the fact that there is but only one screen.
If they're playing Kingdom of Heaven I think I'll go catch it sometime.
About the CAT well I can speak from experience that the peaking thing does have truth to it.
But there is really no way to gauge on which cusp of the bellcurve you are, so it makes sense to not really think too much about such fundalogy.
Right now what you should be doing is getting fundamentals in Math solid, maybe getting into a reading habit with some diverse literature, learning your squares, roots and tables.
All basic stuff, keep it low intensity till about July and then start firing in the SIMcats.
Personally I think after all this it might still go to hell on D-day, I would know, but atleast you are improving your probability of not having an off-day.
I haven't decided if I'll take CAT this time yet, in all probability count me in though.

yeah i m frm cusat....coming bk to CAT, i m trying to build up my reading speed...the prob is that when i read an article of my interest my reading speed goes up...also i find considerable diffrence in my reading speed when i read fiction rather than non- fiction.... i personally think reading kinds of seldon, cricton, archer etc...hardly helps our purpose for cat prep...they r more of time-pass stuff....[and ARCHER isn't even tht! i read a few novels of archer and i find them all very similar....in fact i fnd him so boring thati had to dump THE LAST JURY halfway]
so coming back to the point, which books do u recommend? I found ATLAS Shrugged by ayn rand interesting..."Surely u r joking mr FYNman" by richard fynmn ws good 2..... should we time ourselves while reading..eg...50 pgs in x min etc..wd that help....
another doubt that hs been bugging me is whether mugging 3k gre words really helps or nt....and more importantly hw do we go about mugging up.....so people recommended to make card....bt then if i i memorize a card today and iafter 20 days if i look back..i m clueless....can u suggest a better way to recollect these words.....some say that we should use these word in our conversations, bt these words sound quite unnatural when u use them regularly........ kochi is among the top 10 cities in india.....it is called the commercial capital of kerela...more n more funds r nw being invested to develop kochi as an industrial hub.....technopark..infopark...biotech centre hv been developed as a first step to achieve this goal....bt inspite of all this kochi still lags far behind cities like bangalore, chennai.....yes these cities hd an early start advantage...bt still kochi is nowhere near them ...despite having such an ideal location..with the seaport, international airport nearby., kochi lags bhind.....where do u think the prob lies....is it the politics, the mindset of people, funds...???or is there any prob at all! PGites @ kochi share ur views as to hw kochi can promoted as an industrial hub and wt is it that is keeping kochi behind in this race. Somesh... for the CAT wordlist mugging is pointless. It might prove useful for some lesser exams.
Personally I would suggest you start reading a lot of editorials in a diverse range of newspapers and magazines.
Read Economics Times, read the whole editorial page and a bit more...it'll take care of your GD/PI preps and you will find new words there which have this uncanny knack for showing up in your tests.
CAT requires knowledge of more functional english, it's the kind of english you will find in biz magazines and papers... your being good at it means that you keep yourself well-acquainted with such publications...and thats what they want. Get it?
And for God's sake don't read novels... and you obviously don't know me well enough to have mentioned Ayn Rand
You will obviously read things you find interesting faster, what you need to do is get out of your comfort zone, read things that you're not naturally good at...philosophy, genetic engineering, medicine, astrophysics... anything under the sun.
I should be charging you consultation fees.
