Piracy of non indian software is actually helpful to the economy because we r getting the benefits of the good work done outside without paying too much...
Ofcourse Kiran Karnik must be getting a millon dollars from Microsoft or something... or just trying to be politically correct...
If indian written software is pirated then its understandable...

Hey guys... when we talk about business, we are not talking about India alone, we are talking about global business. So if a foreign mutinational gets hurt because of this it is not just a private enterprise getting hurt... its the business getting hurt... globally. Lets look how -
M firm produces a Software W... Who looses if W is not licensed?
1. M firm definetly monetarily
2. Retailers...who sell X
3. Government who will get tax on these sales
4. Job losses - more piracy.. less people required in manufacturing of CDs,in retail outlets
5. Growth of M not what it could be... so again retailers loose, government loose, job losses happen, the Jobs M could have created by those money will not be created now... research will be affected etc
7. Government could have used this money for job creation, infrastructure investment etc
Now I think even if M is not an Indian company, piracy will hit Indian economy also and that too very badly. As there are taxes on the imported s/w that M produces( i guess import duty is 10%). And mind u the PC s/w market is worth billions of dollars. Calculate these and this misconception will be wiped off.
And no I am not being paid a single penny by M
