Idea seems good on the first hand ! Just make sure that you don't compromise on the quality of service as you expand to other cities !

How about exchanging books between your customers free of cost? Suppose customer A has a harry potter novel and customer B has Chetan Bhagat's latest novel. You can probably have a section where both of them can post that they can exchange these two novels and you can act like a bridge between them. You are better off deciding the cost for this service. Since you are already into home delivery, this might not be very difficult to implement.

All the best way to go ..
Authorization and registration is the area which is keeping me away from theselling part as of now..
I like the concept that you suggest, would defi. look into it, if it actually does make economic sense..Thanks for all your encouragement and suggestions...

Re: Entrepreneurship anybody? - 15-05-2009, 12:12 PM

I've been thinking of some kind of web-startup company for HR professionals. Right now, I can't say much except that a lot of the direction it takes will depend on many factors that are still variables being tweaked.

I'm looking at registering it either as a Pvt. Ltd. or a Partnership. Could someone outline the steps, the approx cost and the relative advantages/disadvantages of each?

I partnership company in India as per Companies Act of 1956 makes the individual partners liable, to the company's liabilities, in personal capacity. A pvt. ltd. company is a better option in terms of flexibility.

Albeit, I urge you to look at the newest kid on the block - Limited Liability Company (LLP) started only a month ago @ Ministry of Corporate Affairs

Agreed with monil. In addition to that, in partnership you will need every partner for all formalities. Pvt. Ltd. should be better in the beginning at least.

I read about LLP on the link monil gave. It's nice option. But, they have mentioned that LLP will be separate entity from their partners. So, you might want to check if double taxation is applicable or not.

Registration -

http://business.gov.in/starting_business/index.php

http://business.gov.in/howdo/otherservice_details.php

Cost -

Depends on location & type. But if it's a Pvt. Ltd. my guess it should not exceed 2K.

Monil and AC, thanks! I think you've pointed me in the right direction.

AC, I thought Pvt. Ltds. were expensive due to the current account and other such formalities. But, I'll go double-check that too.

From what I have read around, I don't think so. Still, you can check with cost when you apply.

All the best.
