Re: Entrepreneurship anybody? - 27-04-2009, 12:07 AM

I need some info regarding copyright-ing a website......frankly speaking I have no idea!

I have developed a website which is kind of an online community..

Do I need to get it copyrighted before hosting, if I intend to take it up as a start-up or can I do it later?
Also, if the domain name is not my name then will it be required to get it registered as a company?
And what will be the approx expenditure to get it copyrighted and registered?

Thanks and sorry if my questions sound dumb!..

Do you know how many people actually earn 15lakh/yr @ 25yrs age?

very few, unless you are those with IIT+IIM+CA+CFA tag or lucky one?

So the above scenario seems more like a dream than reality to me.

I wonder from where you have derived such theory? Don't you when KFC started?

There are lot more things you dint included in the list (right time, resources, luck etc.)

Kindly see that I am talking about the best case scenorios for people who are into service. Also please note that its not only the MBA earns big, Even people with just graduate degree can reach the figure.

My point was that, if you understand , that a person who gives 3-4 years and performs his best can reach 15L P.A. But if you start an enterpreneurship venture and just put some common sense to it, you will probably earn much more than that in the same given time. You just need to innovate and must have a meaning to start up your venture. Never target to earn revenue to start a company but infact what value addition it will bring to the society and how could you deliver it the best...

P.S. Luck and Fortune favours those are brave to risk it.
The point here was to make that,if you start early, you might sometime make wrong decisions in it but there will always be a scope for you to improve those things when you are young, less social responsiblities and full of passion and enthusiam, and the early you learn from those mistakes, the early you will become succesful enterpreneur.

......
Your basic assumption is that everybody who goes into entrepreneurship will always have the best case scenario. Is that always true?? Commom sense may not be enough to make you really successful. You do need a market to sell to and despite the best intentions, you can never guarantee success.

As for revenue, i'd disagree on that too. You have to know HOW you are going to make money. Sure there are examples like Twitter and Facebook that are popular who arent spending their own money but investor money. Unless you are raising that kind of capital, revenue is critical to you.

Normally, putting it up on the internet gives you copyright straightaway. Then again, you cannot copy-right a website, you can do it for content or product. You trademark a name or a quote.

If its an online community, you might want to study how apna PG runs

You dont need to register a company name until you start making money on it. When you have to declare taxes on it, you'll want to register a company so as to take advantage of the tax-benefits applicable.

Your name does not give you copyright btw :-p

Ok .. thanks

SO, I will need to get a copyright once I start adding my own content apart from the user generated content
And I will need to get it registered once I start making money from it. I guess this doesnot include money that is made from adsense and other advertisements.. since there are so many blogs who do this. Please correct me here

I have read somewhere that if I use my own name as the domain name of the website .. I donot need to get it registered... whatever are the advantages of it!
But its too early to think about this now, I guess..

Are u working with PG?

You will automatically get a copyright the moment you start posting material on your website. You just need to put a copy-right mention at the bottom of the page.

Unless your website really takes off, dont expect to make a lot of money via Adsense or other advertisement. Your site has to have numbers before people advertise.

In starting a business on the internet, its all about Name! Name!! Name!!!
Your website name should be identifiable with your business. PG is the exception here but note that it is the exception, not the rule!

Whatever you've read abt name, domain name and registration, you've read wrong!

I'm a super-mod on PG, so no, i dont work for PG

I suppose IIMs do provide a window period of 2 years for budding entreprenuers to come back and sit in the placement process if things dont pan out well. Not sure about other B schools though.
