ENFLAMMER is the first ever Student Enterprise Contest in India organized by CIE (Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship), NITIE and EDC (Entrepreneurship Development Cell) supported by DST (Department of Science and Technology, GOI). The event will be conducted under the aegis of Prerana - 2008 (October 23rd – 25th), the annual B-School festival at NITIE.
ENFLAMMER is a unique contest of Enterprises run by Students. It is a step ahead of B-Plan Contest. The event will illustrate the B-Plans in action. It will showcase the achievements of Student Enterprises to inspire 70 million Young Students in India.
CIE, NITIE is calling nominations from the Student Enterprises (SE) across different educational institutes in India. The most talented Student Enterprise will be identified and awarded as "The Best Student Enterprise of the Year."
The contest will showcase the achievements of Student Enterprises, which will inspire young students to master their own business ventures. The unique feature of this contest is that the participants who are playing the dual role of being a student and an entrepreneur will be competing.
So gear up and let us together salute the spirit of Entrepreneurship!
Last Date for receiving the entries is October 18th. Please go through the rules and guidelines in the attached pdf.

IIMB offer a MPEFB course which is a distance learning one....1yr course.....
It starts from jan...... new brochure would be out soon......

I'm looking for more information on this course (unofficial info, effectiveness of course ). IF anybody knows nethg,( esp someone who has attended it earlier or knows neone) it wud be really helpful.

What do you do when you have an idea but

* Dont know if a Market Need exists as such
* Dont know if you'll make any money
* Know implementation will cost you a bit in money and a lot in time

Do you go ahead and implement it anyway?? Or do you just get a move on and look for something that can be more profitable?

Do market research, that's what MBA teach me

1.present your idea / Bplan in bschool competition, your ideas will gets reviewed from host of people (professors, students) and there's a good chance that they will be able to spot loopholes
2. speak with VC / PE. these people have already seen 1000 bplans, so they have better idea of which will work & which won't

Know implementation will cost you a bit in money and a lot in time

if you don't get satisficatory answer to above question, then just go ahead & do it ....

Now you are speaking like an MBA consultant :-p
I dont have an MBA. I dont know the first thing about Market Research.
I dont like Bschool competitions for teh simple reason that half the time they take too long. Not to mention, most times you need to be a student of another b-school in india to take part. As for VC/PE, honestly how many of us actually know one??

Am probably going to implement it.

No offence rocky, i'm sure you can but my question was meant to be independent of type of business idea. My interest is Education, dushyant is Online Advertising, somebody else is in some other field. Its likely that each one of us, at some point wondered if it was worth it. More so, since we are only starting out and are perhaps working full-time jobs as well. Not all have the luxury of quitting their jobs and working full-time on their idea. Part of my question really is-- How much risk do you take?

Most entrepreneurs I know never read a business book until they were successful, and then only to rationalise what they did. I started my little business because I had a useful idea - cooperative culture equals massive profits - and there was a need.
Best way to help entrepreneurs is to get the heck out of their way.
