You are basically putting across the idea of setting up a firm/enterprise which will bridge the gap between the people who have innovative ideas/business plan and the people who have power/money to implement that idea...

This sounds quite feasible, in the sense that you would be putting across the idea to VCs who will eventually either invest in the project or reject.

On the otjer hand you yourself can be a sort of investing firm/VC. If you thinking about this, then you should have substantial amounts to invest in projects like these. How do you plan to tackle this? Tie ups? joint venture?

Lets hope i make some sense this time...

I was talking to a few puys on SB(mitu, vip, ros, veramaz and paras) abt their take on social entrepreneurship. After withstanding severe criticism for not being clear about my own very thought i realized the problem was in the definition of the word itself.

Do I for one, myself know what i am talking about?(scary thought!)
I came across this Businessworld Article which explains a part of what i have in mind and something which i would love to be a part of /explore eventually in my life.

Businessworld - Web Excl: Geemarahalli’s Floriculturists

The article talks about facilitating entrepreneurial initiatives amongst the poor and rural areas of the country.Basically even if ppl of a lower eco. class want to start somethin on their own, they face numerous roadblocks namely:
1. Lack of Resources in particualr finances
2. Lack of expertise about the sustainability of the idea in the marketplace
3. Networking with the right set of people.
4.Exposure to the Market place through the right channels

The area of initiatives cud vary from agriculture to food business to something else. There are government bodies like SIDBI etc who do this but i am not too sure about the effectiveness at a granular level.
I thin Gurcharan Das in his book India Unbound also fleetingly talked about it. There are so many ideas at the rurals which wud be very successful if encouraged and supported.
Maybe there is a scope for a firm/consultancy to do this which facilitates funding and knowledge sharing and in trun maybe takes a small stake in their venture for its own sustainability.

How does one go about helping them? There are pseudo VC firms which do this.Like Infrasys mentioned in the article above.
The primary reason i had for posting my first post was to get an idea of how others looked at it. And I apologise for not being very articulate about the whole thing.
But the confused response has actually helped me get my thots in order

Really?? You are talking about social responsibility here. I've always believed the main priority is to be your own boss. You could be a 1 man business and still be an entrepreneur. Of course, it does help to have a partner in that you both can bounce ideas off each other(another thing i had to learn the hard way) and see how good something really is.
I was actually replying to one of Chicane's Post

Paul Graham makes for great reading :-) I am on my laptop so I dont have a link to a particular post which talks about why full time is better than part-time. I'll post it later. In the mean while.....

Amazing Read Neo. I really liked the way Paul has put down his views in a matter of fact way.And all the points make complete sense to me, as a matter of fact upon introspection i realized i was guilty on a few counts as well

I would want to read more...if you could share it.
