Guys!!

Money will be the last of your problems...
Atleast in the current scenario...
In 99% of the cases if you dont get the money its probably because you asked the wrong people or your idea/team is not going to work in the long run...
Vaise slightly seriously speaking Private equity/Venture Capital is beginning to grow big time in India... I am particulary aware of one big PE firm... (IIM Calcutta recruiter too) which is coming up with a big fund for the next two years...
I think one of the simplest ways would be to get in touch with the TIE in your area... They will have access to people with the money...

Surf around and you can get the numbers and emails of some VC firms too...

MBA - and Entrepreneurship - 17-04-2006, 09:00 AM

Okay guys..here I am again..back after a looong time...I joined and quit Infy for an MBA @ NMIMS.. don't know whether that was good or bad  any way.. one year of MBA has made me realise certain things...and here they are...

1. the only way you actually get to apply all that you have learnt in an MBA is by doing it on your own...by starting off an enterprise..

2. Apart from the gas that is manufactured in almost all MBA classes....a little ..and I will explain why I used "little"...knowledge of Finance would definitely help in better decision making -- If you know too much, you may never make the decision at all.... Lets not go into the risk appraisal and all that jazz...what kind of financing will you go in for..but making a concrete business plan is one significant activity..the foundation of your enterprise..and the MBA will give you an overall perspective into the different dimensions that exist...

3. Business plan competitions are the best way of finding out how good the plan is

4. Corporate projects -- especially with startups...will help in getting a view of the more practical side of things...espcially contacts !!

While I have started to put the various pieces together...it will be some time before I actually assemble the whole jigsaw...in the meanwhile, I have become doubly convinced that I have to start up my own venture...

I will keep everyone posted ...exams in two days and then summers...

- Ciao

Re: Entrepreneurship anybody? - 17-04-2006, 10:50 AM

hey!!
Wow.. thanks yogesh for starting a thread on entrepreneurship! ..
Me a 7th Batch Student of EDI .. i was wondering are you the Yogesh from Chennai? .. we spoke i suppose..

Anyways.. am full fledged into family business.. and its a different world out here.. It is difficult i suppose for an MBA to begin entreprenuership.. but with more and more business schoold giving programmes relating to entreprenuership, i suppose a lot of them are trying to bridge the supposed gap between mba and entreprenuer.

EDII was an experience. It was awesome and the pits both at the same time, it basically depended on how much we took out of it. Hopefully, like us, the college too has learned a lesson or two ! But i do strongly suggest you check out the IIMA one week course n entrepreneurship. Its a rigorous programme for students and professional, one that is ideally taken after a few years experience. I jumped ship from SCMHRD's FBM programme. They dont have one anymore, since the new director took over. EDI otherwise is very easy to get in. The 'test', if you can call it that, is a breeze. the interview.. even more so. I suppose they mainly rate you for confidence, and not too much on communication skills.
I could go on and on about EDI... but have to get back to work so will stop here!!

.. Gulshan, what say? .. good to see you on pagal! ..

its beena long time no pagalguy.com! Though the t-shirt is out , and its pretty good .. am on thebangalore PG yahoo groups for 6 months now, but havent gotta achance to meet any of them, considering most of them are professional, none entrepreneurs.. it is a game to match everyones times to get to meet them!! ..

Well hopefully am gonna meet a lot of you in the All India PG Meet, i suppose tentatively scheduled in bombay. not sure when and where though!

Coming back to the point of debate.. the single most quality that identifies or makes an entrepereneur, is Passion. followed by a close second with persevarance and then patience! with a sprinkling of Pleasure!

yup Entrepreneurship just found its 4 ps !! ..
what say?

First of all thanks for sharing ur knowledge. Now comes a doubt. I suppose thinking a path breaking or excellent idea is not easy and takes a lot of time. Now if we disclose our plans in competetions like this or even to various VCs then don't u think there is a possibility that the idea may be copied and implemented before we r even able to arrange for the funds. Or before we r able to implement the idea. I may sound stupid or illiterate in this respect but this is something which always comes to my mind. Could u please provide me some gyan on this.

Having said that I would like mention that we still have to discuss the idea with someone as I think that freshres like me r too inexperinced to take a rash decision.

thanks

Re: Entrepreneurship anybody? - 18-04-2006, 04:08 PM

well, yes i too did have that problem. i used to think
if i discussed it with somebody or took part in a business
plan, they wud steal my idea.

but thats not true. some of the ppl i have talked to have
been extremely helpful.discuss ur idea and then only u
will come up with its shortcomings, if any and other stuff.
heck, i have got lots of new ideas bcoz of discussing
issues with ppl.

life eej hard....
