Bet most of the IT pros looking out for an MBA are doing it to get out of the dog's life they are in!It's neither money nor status , but a change in job profile that they are wanting ,and mostly getting inspired by their Proj Managers' life! Higher the strata , more easy your life...and your Performance based pay is linked to your being able to get max work out of ur Cyber-coolies!
And they claim that we dont work "for" them, but "with" them!
BS ! Only thing my Pm ever writes is to S..T..R..E..T..C..H !!!
And that too when estimations are so inadequate that there will be a slippage even if we work on weekends. And no ,no ramp-ups on team ,since it effects realisations!
Am i the only one with this feeling, that we are being exploited ,or is there anyone else who shares my view?
Take it from me man,if we worked for our own smll comapny in that way, we would be DhiruBhai Ambani by now, rather than slaves to some MNC!
Maybe I should have a relook at my potato farming idea now after all!Just that little bit of capital needed for which that onsite oppurtunity to be availed..for which some more work..and finally the loop goes into recursion!
Sheeesh!! Those who turn and run away.

Something that you should read: http://in.rediff.com/money/2005/feb/09bspec.htm
Well, if it is an escape that you want, you will not get it even after an MBA - and if you really want to be an enterpreuneur (damn that word - if the spelling is wrong ) - you may as well start with any ideas you may have (which will be rare?) today rather than do a two year MBA course and then follow it up with another equally frustrating job stint.
I agree, I looked at MBA as an escape route myself. Am still not sure if i wish to do an MBA. asking others if doing an MBA at this stage in my career is going to get me ridiculed - for not being able to decide myself what I want to do. Trust me - the people who say that I should decide for self - are themselves (disclaimer ( :P ) - generally) not clear about why they need an MBA. It really is a "go with the tide" thing (disclaimer( ): in most cases ). It really pains me to see such responses given to people who are genuinely confused about the mad rush. Its not like we have career counselling - or people have appropriate exposure to the industry to see what career an MBA has in the future.
well now i am ranting - will stop before this goes totally out of topic

Hey Prasunc and Zango....
Check out this article and see if it helps.....dint check if it is authentic or not but I believe it is...... To B-school or not to be
By Mahesh Murthy (Mahesh was once a door-to-door salesman with Eureka Forbes! He was also country head of Channel [V].)
Business World / October 20, 2003
I was all set to write an article on the unreasonable expectations
that entrepreneurs have from investors. Even thought of a snappy
title: 'The fundas of funding'. (Like it? Well, you'll have to wait
for it.)
But then I looked at my inbox - and started counting. Fifty-nine of
you had written in after the last article on business schools - a
record for me in this publication. I decided I would take the lazy
way out and answer the more common questions right here. Apologies
to the rest - I am a few weeks behind on my email, and will try to
synchronise inbox, current reality and my sleep over the holidays.
First a caveat. I have absolutely no formal management qualifications
whatsoever. Or even non-management qualifications. So I'm no expert.
I'm no career counsellor either. Many of you wrote in to ask if you
should do an MBA after your Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor
of Arts (BA), and whether you should specialise in Systems or IT or
Marketing or HR or what have you.
Official answer - I don't know, ask a counsellor. Unofficial answer -
I don't think it matters one bit anyway. My premise is that nothing
approaching anything real or useful is taught in MBA programmes in
India. It's a basic timepass employers want you to go through as a
filter before they come to hire you.
Their theory is straightforward. Say 10 out of every 1,000 students
get into an Indian Institute of Technology. And then five of those
get into an Indian Institute of Management. The hideously misinformed
HR community then figures this must, hence, be the top 0.5% in India
- and proceeds to throw gobs of cash at them for jobs completely
unrelated to their education.
So if you want a high-paying job, get into a 'high-ranked' B-school -
and don't you worry about your specialisation in graduation or the
MBA itself. Nobody else does. Do what you feel like - or can pass
exams most easily in.
As one of you said, the closest that four years of mechanical
engineering education can come to being useful is when you screw caps
on toothpaste tubes you sell for a multinational.
The big jobs are at the big B-schools. So what do you do if you're
not at one of those? Well, don't mope and blame your college. Go, use
your initiative, and network your way into a good job. Meet heads of
businesses you admire - use your project time to make friends and
influence people.
Believe me, within 18 months, every employer - except particularly
deluded ones - will get to know the true mettle of their hires. It
can be a level playing field thereafter. Especially if you refuse to
feel and act inferior to those from 'higher-ranked' B-schools. Lets
not even get into 'rankings' in this article.
Then a few wrote in to ask how important marks are in an MBA. Well,
these two are the last fun years you're going to have in a long time.
You're going to be dealing with spreadsheets for the rest of your
life - shouldn't you be picking Old Monk over Old Management Writers
now?
Is getting placed all there is to being in a B-school, some of you
wondered. Nope - there is one other way B-schools will help you. The
network you form with your gang will really help when all of you are
in positions of relative power maybe five or 10 years from now.
Cultivate your buddies on e-groups, have reunions, keep the
connections alive.
A few asked about doing an MBA abroad. Yes, if your dad has Rs 30
lakh to spare, it's not a bad idea. Get into the top-ranked ones (I'm
using the dreaded phrase again) and survive. If a firm sponsors your
work visa, you could start off at around Rs 45 lakh a year.
Some asked me the core question - what if you wanted to do an MBA to
really learn how to run a business? To you I say, very few
entrepreneurs who you can learn from, teach at B-schools. You might
do better to actually start off yourself. After all, there are only
two things you can do in any business career - be an entrepreneur -
or work for one. "Trust me, I know what I am doing" - Sledgehammer
