Any Pool & Snooker Lovers - 27-01-2005, 03:33 PM

Hi Friends,

I wanted to start a discussion with like minded individuals who r interested in pool, snooker and related sports,

It will help us to know more about this sport so tht we can talk abt it in our interviews if asked abt them. Also it helps to increase our knowledge in the sport we like.

Calling all pool enthusiasts to contribute.

CIAO,
Van Nistelrooy

Chalo bhai ek to mila POOL SNOOKER ka chaasdoo.

There wasnt any thread on this noblest and the most aristocratic of all sports. By god ki kasam the sport is addictive I must have spent thousands of bucks on it and all i have to speak of is a break of 31.

But what can we discuss here ??
All i know is that it took me a whole one year to master the pull back and I cant get enough of the shot.
Like evthing else this game is too bout calls, placements and conversion(pocketing the ball )
Kuch experts ki rai mill jaati about the finer nuances of spin, curl, english to badhiya!!
Btw trivia : Ronnie O sullivan got his first Century break at the age of 9!!!!

Whatz the idea mate u gonna say pool snooker playing as ur interest??
Sounds good as the bade log there might not have any idea.
My friend at his PI said he s an F1 enthu bechara he was prepared for anything from the diameter of the the axle of Ferrari vehicle to all the drivers names. Guess! he was only asked "Who's is the current F1 champ?"
But if u really gonna name it as a serious pursuit then be ready with evthin about different forms(Billiards,pool(9,8,7 ball etc) ,snooker) their differences, rules, current champs,Past champs, Indians who have been world champs like Ferreira, wilson Jones,Advani(amateur), Geet sethi
& Alok kumar whos is the only Indian who competes in Asian 9 ball tour.

Aha.....At last a thread on pool/snooker

Ive been playing for the past 2 years, can polish off the standard pool table in one shot(only occasionally that is), nowadays more into snooker. Was known as a "Bond" player in Infy Mysore . Max break I have in snooker is 35, mastered basic shots like pull back.....yet to try out fundu shots like the masse and yet to own a good cue Cud someone tell me if I can get a gud quality que for around 3-4K?????

Players I love.........Stephen Hendry, Ronnie "Rocket" Sullivan, Jimmy White,Mark Wiliams( I wonder where is Alan McManus nowadays......havent heard of him for ages) and Francesco Bustamante in 9 Ball (I just love his break...best on the circuit).

As for questions on snooker........maybe something like explain the free ball rule, whats the max possible break( 147 without any fouls.....all will surely know this), current world champ (Ronnie), guy whoz won it max number of times(Stephen Hendry 7 times, next best Steve Davis with 6), nicknames on the tour (Ronnie is Rocket, Jimmy white is whirlwind, James Wattana is Typhoon.........). Also some recent champions names like Mark Williams, Peter Ebdon, John Higgins, Ken Doherty.

PS: Alok Kumar is the only one playing Asian 9-Ball?? I thought Mukesh Rehani once reached the round of 8 in one of the Asian legs

Cool Hi again - 04-02-2005, 02:52 AM

Hi friends,

Sorry for being late in posting. Guess was carried away in the FMS and XLRI fever and then the euphoria.
Anywayz thnk u orca, tht was quite somethin. I used to consider myself to be a Pool and snooker enthusiast, but the records as mentioned by orca were never known to me. Now I consider myself to be a novice.
I am more into playing pool and snooker coz we dont play billiards here at the place we play. I dunno why pool is rated so low compared to snooker and billiards.
As rohit said mannnn.......thr is no other greater satisfaction than gettin a long pot on the snooker table.
does anybody know the nitty gritties like range of the length of cue, weight and dia of the balls.
Orca jee aapke madat ki zarurat hai
Just for the details
Alex Pagulayan of Canada is the current world Pool champion. Apna alok Kumar had reached the fourth round i guess..not sure abt this, pls correct me if i am wrong.

If anybody like me is not being able to play pool or snooker due to hectic job timings and has an access to Internet, visit carom3d.com and download tht game from the site. Tis a 3D game and gets as close to the real thing as possible. Also a lotta options like rotation ball, 8 ball, 9 ball, snooker etc
Ciao friends, will post more if i come across somethin

Quite interesting to know that u have played snooker at the state level....man thats something!!

kripya karke koi mera yeh doubt clear karo

How do u stun the cue ball and stop it when u r playing ramrod straight long shots?? I mean when the object ball is very close to the pocket and the cue ball is dead straight. In pool this is very easy since the contact area of the cue ball with the cue tip is pretty large but in snooker I feel its one of the toughest shots. I always land up following the object ball and pot the cue ball I have tried all possible ways to avoid this.....giving some spin, taking the shot hard, hitting the cue ball at the dead centre, bottom and all that. Either the cue ball follows the object ball into the pocket or I miss the damn shot........ Any special technique to be used to stun the cue ball on such long pots????

By the way discussing things aint very effective........have to actually see how "baap" log play the game and take some tips from them. Any of u snooker lovers in blore?? I wud love to meet up with any of u guys and have a game on the weekends. Neone interested please PM me. By the way me new to Blore.....which club has the best table and cues?? The table in my new company is really pathetic.....cues are disguisting...infact the table isnt even the standard English snooker table....it is a french table which is smaller in size.

In Infy Mysore we had a Millenium snooker table and gud cues....was really a pleasure playing there.....
