Guys,

Good to see pool/snooker experts out here... I am a novice by any standard.

Use to play billiards a lot and love it more compared to pool or snooker. Currently have the facility of pool at my office.

Just wanted to know the difference between Pool, 8 ball, 9 ball etc....

BTW I feel that there is difference in the weight and size of all the balls in billiards, snooker and pool. Even the cue ball and the cue are differnet and so is the table size.... Does anyone know the exact difference? This affects the shots you play... I mean I use to play billiards at quite a satisfactory level, but i simply can not play the pool at that level...you need an entirely different mind-set...isnt it?

Good idea rdxace.... BTW the link given by ruudvannistelrooy (carom3D.com) is excellent. You can download the software and play with other guys across the internet. ....exciting and addictive....Is there any such software for billiards?

Hi ppl,

Just came across this site which gives gyan on how to develop a firm bridge and a nice stance for snooker.....found it to be quite helpful.

http://www.fcsnooker.co.uk/basics/th...the_bridge.htm

And for all u Ronnie fans this one is a must watch. It is a clip from the 1997 World snooker championships where he clocked a 147 break in 5 mins 20 secs which remains the fastest 147 clearance till date. The next fastest 147 clearance in a World Championship knockout stage is by Stephen Hendry and he took more than double that time.

Enjoy maadi http://www.engr.colostate.edu/~dga/pool/normal_videos/new/NVA-19.htm

How do u stun the cue ball and stop it when u r playing ramrod straight long shots?? I mean when the object ball is very close to the pocket and the cue ball is dead straight. In pool this is very easy since the contact area of the cue ball with the cue tip is pretty large but in snooker I feel its one of the toughest shots. I always land up following the object ball and pot the cue ball I have tried all possible ways to avoid this.....giving some spin, taking the shot hard, hitting the cue ball at the dead centre, bottom and all that. Either the cue ball follows the object ball into the pocket or I miss the damn shot........ Any special technique to be used to stun the cue ball on such long pots????

By the way discussing things aint very effective........have to actually see how "baap" log play the game and take some tips from them. Any of u snooker lovers in blore?? I wud love to meet up with any of u guys and have a game on the weekends. Neone interested please PM me. By the way me new to Blore.....which club has the best table and cues?? The table in my new company is really pathetic.....cues are disguisting...infact the table isnt even the standard English snooker table....it is a french table which is smaller in size.

In Infy Mysore we had a Millenium snooker table and gud cues....was really a pleasure playing there.....
hi orca,

Great thread dudes...
Please let me know if there are any tournaments/competitions that are hel d in India???
I even mailed the snooker and billiards federation of India once asking for the details .. but no response..

About a couple of years back I had seen Indian 9-ball championship being telecasted in DD sports ( recording not live).. it was held in hyderabad....
Can anyone give me info about this tournament?

Long time since there has been any activity on this thread.........

I am planning to go in for a 2-piece snooker cue. Do any of u ppl have an idea of where I can get good cues in Blore? I am looking for something in the range of maybe 3-4K at the max. Also any decent clubs where I can get myself a monthly/quarterly registration? If its a club dedicated exclusively to snooker then gr8 coz I assume I will get to play on good and well maintained tables(eg: millenium tables) and not on some old tables with moth eaten cloths.........or am I asking for too much here?
