Yet another instance of backlash against outsourcing to India has been reported. And this time its laced with hate, sexcism and racism.
American radio jockeys Star and Buc Wild — apparently big names in their field — in an attempt to be 'funny' broadcast an abusive call that was placed to an Indian call-centre worker.
The 'call' was aired in their morning show on Philadelphia's Power 99 FM radio.
In the tape that was played, the caller starts with placing an order for mail order beads, questions the executive if the call has been outsourced to India and then proceeds to abuse her.
Apparently, the wakeup crew at the radio station thought it was hilarious, but it has provoked outrage amongst Indians back home and those living in the US.

Here's the transcript of the call picked up from one of the blogs:
Narrator: Wakeup with Star and Buc Wild in the mornings of Power 99 FM.
Star: I'm going to play this call from earlier before we get out of here. This is the, uh, call that I made to - I thought it was a company here locally. Not that I was surprised. (laughter)
Star: I saw this infomercial about, uh, what are these things called again? Oh, the, uh...
Female Voice: Bead? Oh shoot.
Star: Anyway, let - let's just play the call. I was surprised when I got somebody on the line in East India. These little beads that I saw. Little white kids, uh, a little machine that puts them in their hair.
Female Voice: Mm'hm.
Star: Play it. (tape begins)
Steena: This is Steena. How may I help you?
Star: Hi, Stain-a, you say?
Steena: Yes.
Star: (In fake Indian accent) Yeah, I called and I just got hung up on. I'm calling from America about the quick beads for my daughter's, uh, hair. Quick beads.
Steena: Okay. May I have your ZIP code please?
Star: 10274.
Steena: 10274?
Star: Yes. Get it right. Now are you in India? Because I just spoke to someone in India who hung up on me.
Steena: Thank you. I am from India, ma'am.
Star: Okay. So my call is being outsourced to India.
Steena: That's right.
Star: In... in regards to my six year old, white American daughter who wants to get the quick beads like Serena and Venus Williams.
Steena: Now. I'll definitely place an order for that. See...
Star: What's that?
Steena: ...in the ad, she called to place a quick bead of counier. To ensure pro
per handling...
Star: Ma'am, I don't know what the hell you're saying. Hang on a second. Let me try and get something straight here. The quick beads, like Venus and Serena Williams, that to advertise to -- to the white kids on television. This call has been outsourced to India?
Steena: That's right.
Star: Well, ma'am, what the eff would you know about an American white girl's -- uh, uh -- hair? And quick beads.
Steena: Just to inform you, ma'am, we're a national chain services company. And we're just taking calls on the opposite...
Star: Listen, bitch! Don't get slick with the mouth! Don't you get slick with me, bitch!
Steena: Now if you continue to speak this language, I will disconnect the call.
Star: Listen to me, you dirty rat eater. I'll come out there and choke the eff out of you. (laughter)
Star: You're a filthy rat eater. I'm calling about my American six year old white girl. How dare you outsource my call? Get off the line, bitch! (laughter, end of tape)
Star: Pull it up. (laughter)
Star: Heard they listen well out there.

Coming to the Americans...
They are always at the extreme ends in watever you consider.
When it comes to respect and hospitality we shud learn from them...(I dunno if that is mere show off or they are real..)
When it comes to abuse also...they top the list.
They are abusing becoz they feel Indians are snatching away their jobs.
The solutions might include...
1. Not to reveal the identity that they are indians.
2. Know how to handle such abusive customers.
3. US has law for each n every thing. To enforce one more law that if they abuse unnecessarily without any reason they should be fined heavily.
The companies that outsource their job should ensure this.
4. Introduce Chat and email supports instead of calls/phone support. There is no need of accent here and no revealing identity also.
I think this will be the best solution.
n those mere beings have no chance to abuse Indians and even if they did its not going to be taken so personal.
I also think that Outsourcing is one of the good things happening in India..
Lotza people getting jobs and leading their own lives atleast they dont have to depend on others.
Lets not exaggerate too much on they abusing Indians...n Inidans dont have to take it personaly...yeah I saw the above posts....they are really appalling though....
hmmm...watelse can solve this???
There will come a time when you believe everything is finished. That will be the beginning.

My question would be.. WHy should we try to hide our identity. Frankly saying I think Indians have enough respect to hold their heads high. people who think otherwise shall face the music in due course.
If Americans feel that Indians are eating into their jobs, they should stop cribbing and pull up their socks rather than showing off their racist tendencies.
And as a final straw, just watched Fahrenheit 9/11 today. If America has a dunderhead as their head, we can't expect more... But there are still lots of sensible people around.
Keep ur comments pouring..

why do we need to hide our identity...simple coz who wud talk to u if they know that when they called thier bank or credit card co ..the call landed somewhere in a remote call center and the agent has all the info right frm the credit card info to social security no...i wudnt feel comfortable givin my info to someone who doesnt understand the implications if someone plays wid ur SSN...sadly enuf some agents are callous on calls to make things worse
thats why a Ramesh becomes a "robert"
i dnt know if u heard the file or seen the transcript but the americans really hate when u dont answer them correctly or worse still...say M'aam everytime when infact the person calling is a guy
told u na...some agents are so busy faking the accents that they forget abt small small things...
guys we need to understand that this is just a one off case and lets not really get into this ........so lets stop this US bashing coz there are wonderful ppl out there and not everyone is as crazy as the RJ
Whatever you are seeking is also seeking you
