Thanks zango and prasunc good points. It was discussed on the show too. The guy said, the guy who worked in th call centre that he doesnt know why he is asked to change his name

but yes some incharge came up with the point that is quite similiar to what zango said. He said these foreigners have to give their credit or whatever card number and details but they would be more comfortable disclosing it to people in their country than a person from a different country. That is why I said call centres have their own reasons.

Why not bring it down to Prakash or just Varma. Why replace it with steve or john or Mike.
One question if you are a marathi the moment you talk to another Marathi you can know there is something familiar in your accent. The moment you talk to a Tamil or Telugu or Bengali or Oriya or gujurati or Punjabi and if you are one there is something that will sound familiar. We cannot fool Americans or Britishers. They are not toddlers. Working in a call centre is a dignified work. It has to look dignified for an Indian too. If anuraghava parchhotia kuluraman harshivardhana sounds strange make it Anil or Rahgav, atleast give it an Indian touch and proudly say you are an Indian. Accent needs to be modified because you have to communicate properly.
As I said being an Indian I cannot take this identity hiding as a compliment. :(
