Look at the huge market => more foriegn and domestic investments to tap into this market=> more FDI and funds inflow=> better revenues for govt=> better allocations in social sector=> better lives to the ppl.

Add to this , more the investment => better industrialisation(for the primary or secondary investment)=> more the development of the industry's region => better job and buisness opprtuites for ppl in that region=> better lives to the ppl.

Also , the NRI factor , a la the Chinese experiment ...where a huge share of their FDI inflow is from Non -resident Chinese!

A resource is a resource ,only if we know how to develp and use it.

This is realy bad. But its good they have been punished. I recently saw a show in SABTV, the one hosted by Smriti popular as tulsi. The discussion was on Call centres in India only. There was a young guy who works in a call centre. Certain interesting points were discussed. The first thing that was stressed is why do these Indians change their names? Why cant a Ravi Kapoor say I am Ravi kapoor why to say I am steve Martin :P
If you want respect from others my concept is first respect yourself only then you can expect others to respect you. They know most of the calls are out sourced to India, they know the person they are talking to is an Indian, but this Indian will say I am not an Indian but I am an American or Britisher. I know the call centres have reasons to justify this. But as an Indian I just cannot see any reason justifying this.

sayeisha,
they do it so that it becomes easier for the customer who calls in to associate with the person they are talking to.. for instance - if they are going to call this person by his name - and it is something that they are unfamiliar with - they may not be able to get their point across quite so easily.

Moreover, if you were to ask a call center person if they were from india, I do not think they would mask their location by lying - if they were from india, they would say so (as the lady in this transcript did).

Cheers

I doubt the call center guys fake nationality or location.
Names yes..cause it is very difficult for a forigenr to call you sth like :
"Adduri veera venkata naga ramchandra var prakash Varma" .And that u know is a real name of one of my frnds (No offence Varma!)

You dont want to putoff ur clients only cause of ur name!
and a nikname is a sign of affection as well (ok that's a rubbish point)!!!

Thanks zango and prasunc good points. It was discussed on the show too. The guy said, the guy who worked in th call centre that he doesnt know why he is asked to change his name but yes some incharge came up with the point that is quite similiar to what zango said. He said these foreigners have to give their credit or whatever card number and details but they would be more comfortable disclosing it to people in their country than a person from a different country. That is why I said call centres have their own reasons.
Quote:
"Adduri veera venkata naga ramchandra var prakash Varma" .
Why not bring it down to Prakash or just Varma. Why replace it with steve or john or Mike.

One question if you are a marathi the moment you talk to another Marathi you can know there is something familiar in your accent. The moment you talk to a Tamil or Telugu or Bengali or Oriya or gujurati or Punjabi and if you are one there is something that will sound familiar. We cannot fool Americans or Britishers. They are not toddlers. Working in a call centre is a dignified work. It has to look dignified for an Indian too. If anuraghava parchhotia kuluraman harshivardhana sounds strange make it Anil or Rahgav, atleast give it an Indian touch and proudly say you are an Indian. Accent needs to be modified because you have to communicate properly.
As I said being an Indian I cannot take this identity hiding as a compliment. :(
