Talking about doordarshan, i simply don’t have words to express it, i’ve grown up watching dd and only dd.
As a kid it used to be serials, high school onwards it was news and news based programs.
Coming to entertainment it was regional movies in the evening with 15 minute regional news break at 7 pm.
Rangoli , chitrahar, shri Krishna, jai hanuman, tehkikaat, shaktimaan, shaanti (both ‘ek ghar ki kahaani and “ek aurat ki kahaani”) chutti chutti, dekh bhai dekh, list is endless, its an era gone by, it was an era when we had something which we could call entertainment, not mindless clutter like these days.
In the above threads a particular episode of tehkikaat where the person living below a flat moves the dining chairs in the floor above using a magnet which was in the form of trishool. It was the flat of a person named “some” Perera whose spirit was said to be troubling the residents, years after the images of this spirit making scary faces and coming out of the bathtub used to give me goose bumps.
And how cud we forget the news readers!!!! Sunit Tandon and Mrinal Pandey are the names that come first to my memory, the elegance and poise with which DD news readers used to present news is something worth remembering.
The correspondents Sanjit khajuria( jammu), Bashir Mallik( Srinagar), Sudhansu Rajan( patna), B. Meera(banglore), Walter Dhingra( ranchi), Amitav Chakravarty( US) are also the people i remember. Even today DD is the best place to watch the news, u get the whole national news in 15 mins, not like 15 hours of same “breakin news” as in pvt channels.
News & dicussions in DD were intellectually stimulating and knowledgeable. I think govt apathy was responsible for loss in viewership.DD as a national broadcaster of India had and still has the capability to become the BBC of this part of the world.

She was Salma Sultan.

Today i got to know to my utter shock that news reader tejeshwar singh left for heavenly abode long ago.
The man and his baritone voice....wont forget.

No matter how many Star pluses & Zee Tvs come, DD will still remain embedded within us. For people of our age group (early 20s) the DD is reminiscent of our childhood. I am afraid this is not going to be the case with coming generation who is being brought up under the influence of K-serials & reality shows.
One of my all time favourite is Malgudi Days. No other serial (read author actually) explored different facets of human nature as it (he) did.
And who can forget the Flop Show-the best comedy serial ever made. Byomkesh Bakshi, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Fauji, Shrimaan Shrimati....the list is endless. Though we still have some good serials coming up these days but these DD serials were truly different. I feel sorry for the current state of DD that it is largely neglected.

The story so far...

CAT 08 : 96.xx percentile

Calls : IIFT, IMT, MICA, SIBM, SCMHRD, TISS, XIMB

Converts : SCMHRD

Here I come again...

Hey ppl do u remember “mile sur mera tumhara to sur bane hamara” song on DD, nothing has ever given a united and incredible India picture more clearly than this one.....u just grooved into the oneness...the same lines sung in different languages made no difference to u. More importantly one never had enough of it...as fresh and as refreshing as ever.

I remember the lines in Hindi clearly, of the other languages i just remember the tune.

“Sur ki nadiya har dishaa se bahate saagar mein mile...badalon ka roop lekar barse halke halke...oooo mile sur mera tumhara to sur bane hamara”

Other languages were something like(a distant memory though)

Maanjhaa tumjha duljhaa tara madhur suranjha barasti dhara (Gujrati or Marathi, I suppose)

Mile sur jo taro maaro bane aapno sur niyaro (Punjabi)

Tama mora swar ra milana shrishti hou .....(Oriya)

Tomar shoor morer shoor shrishti....(Bengali)

If someone has a link to this video....it would be nice if he/she sent it to me.

hey guys, first post here but can't resist asking for what I've been looking for:

DD's serial of 1994: "Imtihaan" Title song sung by Vinod Rathod.........

"Ankhon mein rok le tu yeh aansuon ka toofan",
"leti hai zindgaani har kadam pe ek imtihaan".

Can someone help me find this pleaseee??

Many thanks in advance...
