Which bike would be the best?? - 14-06-2004, 05:03 PM

Well guys...
I need some advice...
Am planning to buy a bike...and hope all you bike users can help me decide.

Let me put down the stuff am looking for...

Price - Moderate (< 50K...can stretch upto 52K)
Mileage - Good (between 50 - 65)
Power - Should be OK (not less than 110cc)
Life - Should be good..as i don't think there's much of a market for selling a bike after two years.

The bikes I have seen and thinking about are :

Caliber 115 (hoodibaba)
Wind 125
Yamaha Libero
Hero Honda Splendour+

haven't looked up TVS Motors......
I am interested about owning a Yamaha..but the RX135 's kind of outdated and the new Crux and Libero are not getting too many good reviews...

Any suggestions???Will help if I get some quick ones..planning to buy within a couple of days.

Well i would add to the choices u currently have :-

1. Hero Honda Ambition
2. TVS Victor
3. TVS Fiero F2
4. LML Freedom
5. LML Graptor

4. Pulsar 150 KS ( no dtsi )

Well if u can find Pulsar 150KS ...... thats the best choice, but otherwise Fiero is the really the choice u should make. It is 150 cc and has got a pretty reputation as well. One of my friends has it and he loves it for its mileage, ease of driving as well as decent power. Also u can try the Graptor by LML. Looks pretty decent as well as the figures on the paper are very good as well

Personally, I think that the Pulsar 150 is the best of the lot here. It has the best compromise in all the relevant factors.

I have a Splendor and definitely don't recommend it. It's decent in fuel mileage but it has nothing else going for it, IMO. It really struggles to pickup esp. with a pillion rider and cold starts are a big problem.

I think Pulsar or a Fiero would be a good choice. I've driven Victor and Splendor.. wasn't convinced with the pickup and speed. Not for the 20 odd year olds. ;-)

Yamaha Libero gives good mileage, but again its in the league of Victor/Splendor , and not the other Yamahas.

I don't think Ambition and other new models would be a good choice since they won't have a strong second hand market, and they haven't been in the field for a long time.

So, if you could be a bit more flexible on your pocket (Beg, borrow, steal!! ;-) ), go for Fiero or Pulsar. I think Yamaha Enticer would also be a decent choice... a cruiser at 55 K is good, but the mileage is 40 odd. But maintenance wise, theres no problem with it. Its a yamaha to boot.

Moi too planning to take a bike sometime after i join my b-school. My budget can be something like around 60k. My present choices are :

1. Pulsar - still havnt decided between the normal one and the dtsi. Im not terribly fascinated by the dtsi dome,so i might pick the normal one over it.

2. Fiero F2 - did my first wheelie on this bike and i really liked the power.

3. Yamaha RX 135 - :( will always be a love of mine.except that it will make a hole in my pocket cos of the fuel costs, it wud have been my bike ages ago.

I think i'll go with the pulsar...its got just bout everything i need...and also i like its stocky looks. Cheers,
Regards,
Garuda
