pagalguy and google search..

i hv been in this site only for a short period,but my only regret is that i didnt join this forum earlier.Cld hv avoided making many wrong decisions and cld hv cleared many misconceptions abt CAT.

Its not entirely my mistake though.when i tried to get some info and advice on the net last year when i started my cat prep,i didnt find this site in my search.So my Q. is,why doesnt this site come in the top search results on "cat+mba etc".coolavenues comes in the top( not to mention some really silly sites which come in the top 50,dont think pagalguy comes in the top 50),with due respect to thesite,its not a fraction as good as this site.After hours of search,i came to the conclusion that there is not much to look forward to on the net.

I donno on what basis the search engine comes up with the results,but can anything be done abt this problem.
That waywecld get in many more ppl to the forum.It wld not just enrich the forum,but wld also be tremendoulsy useful for those who join.

There was a period when serious discussions were made on whether PG should be googlable After taking in many inputs the forum has now become searchable... You could see that many people have joined here coming from google.... For example search ur user name and the only site that comes up is I guess when you searched, it was not... but now, it is reachable from Google and people land up here searching about Aishwarya Rai too

PG wasn't enabled for searches for quite a while. Thats the reason the growth rate - number of registered users in PG - was comparitively less.
Im not sure of the search status now, but it was enabled sometime back.

THe reason is simple: to maintain quality. PG veterans didn't want spammers or post-for-the-heck-of-it people here. The onus is on quality.

the pt is not whether the site is googlable or not.The Q. is can anything be done to get the site among the top results of a search

We don't really have a say in that. Google will put in the results as it deems fit.

As Govar said, we didn't want to be googleable for a LONG time, until we were sure that the effects wouldn't be adverse on the quality of the people visiting the forum and on the community feeling we people fostered.

But then it is not possible to be on the top rankings for all the keywords. But after reviewing the stats over the months - there is a clear trend.

40% of the searches are for 'pagalguy' , 'pagalguy.com' and its variants. So interestingly people have already heard of us and then decide to check us out.

Most of the searches are rather mba focussed , but then there are searches like ..

"vip frenchie retail outlets in delhi" on google , which makes me chuckle and wonder .. what are people thinking

i tried some searches on google . what i found is that when i type the name of only one enterance test - say CAT or XAT i dont get pagalguy on the top 20 , but when i type a combo of 2 exams - say "XAT NMAT" i get pagalguy on my top 10 list

is there something that can be done so that we are better placed on google search?

err.....ever heard of a term called Search Engine Optimization ....check out www.seochat.com for some info...anybody willin to take that up for us

hello,

off late i have noticed that you get better results with http://search.msn.com/ than with google. i mean the msn index gets updated pretty quickly , the results are the latest and relevant ones and msn doesnt have those spam results like google.

i searched for a lastest thread like "hell with mba" and in msn the PG thread is listed 2nd!!!! and in google theres no result from pagalguy!

can anybody explain this ? i mean msn giving better results than google?!?!? is this the beginning of the end for google?
