A couple of doubts raised in this thread.
1. Laser treatment is no surgery or operation. There's no cutting or stitching involved. It's as simple as exposing the eye to a beam of laser. That is all. yeah, the prelimary checks need to be done thoroughly. I mentioned that earlier too. Since the whole process is computerised, any error in defining the intensity of the laser beam, etc might cause complications.
2. Cost wise...It will vary. Depends on the place where u get it done and the power which needs to be treated. One person I know spent 21K to cure a power of some -11 or something. His power has not returned. It's been about 5 years now since he got treated. Another person I know spent 6K for a power of -0.50.
3. Skydriver refers to an article that a nerve is cut during laser treatment. Boss, I seriously doubt that. If a nerve is cut, it can affect vision, which defeats the very purpose of the treatment. If a nerve is cut, a person can bleed. Never heard of that with laser treatment.
Kapil, think u must consult more than one doctor and try to get as much info as possible, specific 2 ur case. Then take a call.

I know the procedure ... simple ... actually < i have seen the operation in progress.
U are taken to a chamber after 2-3 days of various testing. A "spider" is placed over ur eyes, prevents eyes from blinking. A solution is poured, then a device like a vacuum cleaner (only milder) sucks your eye, so that ur cornea bulges slightly. A few layers of cells are burnt, which makes the rays focus on the retine, so ur no. is gone.
However, any of these practices may prove a complication, and according to a medical document, there are over 90 complications possible..
So, as one person said, dont mess with nature.. If u have specs, stick with it .... For the time being at least!

HI kapil,
As i see it , u have a high power in one eye alone.. this may be a little unweildy as u will have specs with lenses which differ markedly in thickness and appearance.
And yes, LASIK(laser assisted in-situ keratomeiosis) seems to be a pretty new treatment.
If appearance is the promary concern , why not opt for a middle path.. go for contact lenses.. tried and tested and (if u follow the precautions) very safe. And inexpensive.
My vote.. go for contacts, research more about the LASIK and then go for it if u feel like, froma reputed place like sankara netralaya as has been mentioned. | | | | | | | |

Hey Sivaram,
Don't be so harsh yaar. PG is not just for MBA discussions. It's a nice platform to enable discussions on just about any topic on earth. Pls don't restrict it to MBA. I wud give points to Kapil, for actually seeking info thru multiple channels, PG being one of them. If he can get ppl's opinion thru the forum, then y not use it.
All the best, Kapil.
