Good to see that some one has started a thread on Elections 2009.
I was in Delhi(to give FMS {of course it would be REJECT}) the last night and could see huge packets of material required for Election Campaigning was boarded into DAKSHIN EXPRESS train. The material includes the caps, flags and some clothes representing the political parties.
Anywayz.... coming to the 15th Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission has decided to conduct the elections in 5 stages.
The following polling schedule for the 2009 General Elections was announced by the Chief Election Commissioner of India, N. Gopalaswami, on March 2, 2009:
April 16 (124 Constituencies)- Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep
April 23(141 Constituencies) - Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Goa, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Orissa, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand
April 30(107 Constituencies) - Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu
May 7(85 Constituencies) - Bihar, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi
May 13(86 Constituencies) - Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Puducherry.
STAR WAR:
Bollywood DIVA Amisha Patel, to contest the Lok Sabha election from Rajkot in Gujarat on a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ticket.
Telugu film star and Praja Rajyam Party chief Chiranjeevi to contest the April 23 election for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from temple town Tirupati.
Sanjay Dutt to contest as SP candidate in Lok Sabha elections.
This is my GO on the elections.... Waiting for others to pour in their ideas.
SITM - The Mecca of Telecom.
Marketing and Finance.
Class of 2009-11.

i am from calcutta.i voted in my state elections.will do this year too hopefully.i dont want to be caught sleeping.some facts-india is the largest democracy in the world wid over 710 million ppl eligible to vote vs only 314 million in the US.The youth of today has huge responsibilities.india is a young country in an aging world and will remain till 2050.by 2020 ,25% of indian population will be in the age bracket of 21-35 yrs compared to 21% in china.so GO VOTE.it was found that in the last general elections only 47% of ppl voted.also this year around 64 countries are going for elections, directly or indirectly wid a total pop. of 26 billion.
indian elections is a totally different ballgame altogther so much so that the tourism ministry has decided to make a program on it to increase india's tourism.india has over 25 parties.in such a case coliation govt. is likely to come to power.i am going to refrain from my political preferences.
nevertheless, coliation politics makes voters confused.they cant decide whom to vote as loyalties change in an instant.
what i am happy to see this year is that the EC has come out wid strict code of conduct.in cal parties dnt blink twice b4 defacing walls or cutting trees to put up posters.i went to chennai recently for gd/pi.what i was happy to see was that parties were not putting up posters on trees etc.dey erected bamboo supports to put them up.dnt allow parties to deface ur walls.dey need to ask ur consent in written 3 days prior to painting any graphiti.
one more tip-go vote early in the morning ,prefrably frm 7-10 am coz after that false voting begins.
i feel that NOTA (none of the above) option on the electronic machines is a good way to express ur anger bt nt a feasible one since someone has to to run the country.
more later on. as for now PLZ VOTE!
any incorrect info is regretted,bt i hav taken lot of precautions.

thanks ruchikaa n pawanp for sharing yr viewsn info,,
Last time KING was CONG. n QUEEN was SONIA..
the road ahead seems to b tuff these time for congress on following reasons - overall security failure -mumbai, banglre, delhi like cities having
 security.
- 26\11 case not concrete action by GOI against -LET,jem or paki gov
- though recession is bound to affect but gov.not coming with some sound solution esply fr youth energy channel
- qs on company rules. like satyam debacle n ppp
- rural problems still tops the chart

The word Democracy I feel is ironic in Indian Context.Just an observation from my side, In the 62 years of Indian Independence, we have had thr prime minister from the same 'family' for a whopping 37 years. Ironic, isn't it? The last 20 years has ushered in a change but that i feel is due to the lack of a prime ministerial candidate from the 'Family' rather than any other reason. In fact, the scions have barely crossed 30 and we already have voices talking about our future prime ministers. In fact, the Family's clout is such that the person from the Family goes to an opposition party and makes some of the most outrageous statements and yet gets away (despite being in the opposition). But a country of a billion elects them again and again, I feel either the people of this 'family' are extremely talented or we have become extremely sycophantic or we are afraid of Change . Thats democracy for you ....desi style

Now,this is news to me but not a suprise i would have surely given this an super idea to the tourism ministry if they would have hired me as an consultant.. , and I surely am missing this mega event of democracy at work when I am over here @Dxb.
But jokes apart,i find them all the same.
hail insanity!

U r absolutely right... Even the EC is looking into the option of having a NOTA button in the voting machine to gauge the reluctance of the voters... it may not be implemented right now but the thought process has started....

well...its our duty to vote..and wud be doing so...
but the thing that worries me is the fact that some people just comup riding on a votebank which is primarily filled up of people with low knowledge of the things happening besides those that take place in their life.
The development taken into perspective is not alround but partisan in its approach, and human tendency makes you luk at yourself rather than evrybody.
The morals of most of the politicians cud be put to question...but you need to vote for someone whom you think is the best possible answer from your side to the world.
