Heyy Simba!!
You know what...Mark Knofler picked up the guitar at the age of 21!!! That ought to cheer you up!!..

So clean up your guitar, put new strings and keep practicing dude...fingers will loosen up gradually.

Trust me..once you learn chords na...its a thrill to play songs!!

Keep Strummin',
Gaurav

Since nobody has posted it yet, lemme do the honors of pasting the link to the absolute sanctum sanctorum for guitar learning from the Internet...

http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~d...tic/index.html

That's Dan Smith's site... its free. One online lesson from here and you'd realise you dont need anything else.. no teachers, no books... just maniacal love towards the guitar and daily practice . Of cuorse, you have to listen to country/rock to be able to understand his examples. I started out with this site 7 years back.. and now I can play quite a bit . Dan Smith's a guru of sorts for me, and this post is (finally) my gurudakshina to him

And yeah.. the cheapest decent electric guitar is just for 3000 Rs. Givson Blue Diamond is the model name, available anywhere in Delhi !

Hmm...didnt wanna create a separate thread for this one...but is anyone here interested in vocals??

Does anyone know of any exercises by which one can increase their pitch/range of vocals?

Vocalists like Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) and James La Brie (Dream Theater) can hit notes as high as E (12th fret on the 1st string of your guitar!) and probably even higher.

Can anyone here suggest some vocal exercises?

Actually, me wanted to learn too... but somehow found it extremely tough.. My fingers were damn stiff.. & refused to flex... :( :( and i kept wondering if i could never get the hang of it... So, stopped my guitar classes... & the guitar is slowly attracting cobwebs.. :( Mine is a F cut - Hobner ...

Do we have to begin only when u are below 20 or what to learn this guitar.. i wonder .. becos.. frankly.. i used to find it so difficult that i used to wonder if anybody likes this thngie???

Simbaaaaaa
well simba ... if u really want to get back to guitaring ... me could suggest u some basic things that could get u started again and help in improving finger flexibilty ... and half an hour a day is what u basically need ... if u can put in more , u will learn it faster

dude .. ur talking serious stuff here ... 1st of all ... u need to have it to do it ... so if u really have the deep voice for it , its all about tuning ur vocal chords ... well u have to start of basically by practising singing karaoke style ... listen to songs and try to be as close as possible to the real thing ... forget abt E n stuff now , basic songs ... then little more challenging stuff ... practise .. u might screw up your voice also in the begining ... but for singing , i think some real proffesional advice is what u need .... i think MvB ( mukund ) is into singing heavy stuff ...

I would recommend the Bhargavs at Dariya Ganj. He has it all, Good, bad, ugly, cheap, costly and the guy there would help you choose best for you. He is not like regular shop keepers trying to sell you stuff.

And yes you can play ANY song in three months provided you have talents for it !
DO NOT GO TO BHARGAVAS

hes a bloody chor....i enrolled with him for like a month or so....and ended up learning nothing.....all i learnt was Main koi aisa geet gaon...Ek haseena thi..damn....!!

its better to sit down...and learn on ur own...
i ve been learning for a yr or so now....i ve a band of my own...we play Melodic Death-Thrash Metal....
so its nothing wrong to start playing on ur own....
all u need is to be Regular..!!
