Hi puys ,
Everyone knows that smoking is injurious to health. But smoking is injurious to CAT also.Just think how much time and money you are wasting everyday for smoking.I myself was a champion smoker during my engg. days and used to smoke about 15-20 cigerettes a day..i.e., at least two hours was spend on smoking alone.
Smoking had an effect on my B.TECH marks too. There is a difference of 20 percentage between my 12 th marks and B.TECH marks. When I used to sit for my university exams (which was 3 hrs) , always there was a tendency and an urge to smoke during the exam time. This created a lot of problem for me ..
My sincere advice to all those Smokers....
1) Reduce your smoking rate drastically.
2) most importantly NEVER SMOKE BETWEEN 8 A.M AND 2 P.M. atleast for ONE MONTH FROM OCT-15 TO NOV-16.
This will help you in resisting the urge to smoke in the actual CAT exam hours of 10 a.m to 1 p.m.
3) Remember that if you crack CAT 08 , you can smoke forever in your life as u wish.Else if you go behind crazy smoking ,then.................
P.S. Everyone interested must put forward valuable tips on countering smoking and save our CAT.... | | | | | The Following 5 Users Say Thank You to Massy For This Useful Post:

But the subject of dis thread is " SMOKING Vs CAT-08" .i.e, how uncontrolled smoking is harmful to u in these vital CAT preaeration days....I requested everyone to change their smoking times and rates only...I see that the anti smoking thread is aimed at creating panic among smokers , rather than helping them to overcome their addiction in these precat days....
Plz share your views on reducing smokng in these days.....

To be frank, even I have struggled controlling the same during Mocks..Whenever I took the Mock, I used to go out to smoke after 2 hours. Because, I cant control after 2 hours, but later I started asking the other puys who used to give exams with me to take the cigarette case from me & give me back only after the exam is over. But I found it very difficult to concentrate & could see my scores coming down when I gave the paper without that smoke break | | | | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to prem_ravi For This Useful Post:

Even though public smoking is banned, smoking mela continues at major CAT coaching centres at various cities. Here at cochin ,people rush to the smoking corner when it is break.Even the faculty too...
Hi friends...
-buy less number of cigeretes
-do not make it a habit to carry cigeretes to exam centres....
Plz put forward some valuable tips to counter smoking..I am repeatedly posting so as atleast to control myself... Until now I had smoked only 3 instead of some 15 or 20....
Senior puys....how u overcomed the situation in precat days.. Quote:

here's the link : Ramadoss' ban can improve your CAT score - On The Job
And the article itself :
Guess who health minister Anbumani Ramadoss had in mind when he pushed for a ban on smoking in public places? Not his bete noire Shah Rukh Khan, but those hard-working students toiling away to score high in the CAT test to be held in November. That's what some feel, at least on pagalguy.com, an online community for the business school set. A user on the site feels the smoking ban is a god-send for CAT aspirants. His tip: reduce smoking during test prep days, especially between 8 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon to avoid the urge during the high-stakes exam.
The CAT, which opens the door to the IIMs and several other top-notch institutes, has long been revered, backed by an industrious test prep sector. Most students have some rituals or the other. A friend who graduated from IIM Ahmedabad watched Bond films as part of his preparation. The interview panel was impressed with his score; and his varied interests.
A no to smoking seems to be a healthy ritual to follow. But a disgruntled colleague who is miffed by the ban says a smoking room in the examination centres is not a bad idea! Ambition is a poor excuse for not having enough sense to be lazy... mich on orkut | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Jok3r For This Useful Post:

Actually the controlled (or no) smoking in these CAT preparation days will help a lot in quitting smoking. In order to quit smoking, first we need to take a decision in your mind. Inform your friends ( and parents) that you are quitting smoking. You will feel head ache or other problems , which is mainly due to the changes made in your body by nicotine. If it is not possible for u to stop quitting at one go( like me ) , then u must set a deadline ( say Jan 2009 ) for the same. Let these preCAT days bring a major change in your life. Keep away from situations which may tempt you to take a puff . Remember that no filter gives you any protection from a heart attack or cancer.

Suggestions for CAT '08
- Please stop watching tv. Even for 1 hour everyday. The radiation hurts your eyes and doesn't allow you to concentrate harder. On this topic, stop surfing the net and puying as well. You may come here to meet other aspirants but their thoughts can have a deleterious impact on your mind.
- Eat carefully. Please stop having non veg food since it doesn't do the brain any good. It increases blood pressure which is already very high during such times. Have limited amounts of veg food also since you will not be doing any activity and digestion would not be at its fullest now.
- Stop going outdoors since the pollution in the air would make you feel more tired and reduce your capacity to burn long hours by the books.
- Don't read newspapers, magazines.. in fact anything apart from CAT books. The human eyes have limited ability to read everyday and better not waste it on such things.
- Music should be avoided too. Hard rock music can harm the brain. Soft music can over relax the brain which can make you sleep and waste time. Pain is nothing. Pain is in the mind. If you can walk, you can run. The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom.
