| 50 ways to love India -

Dear Friends
I hope to see some feedback on this. you guys can add to this if you'd like.
There may be many who want to help, but dont know how to help, what to do, where to go, how to start, how to run a project , how to manage time and how to collect funds. Why not profile, interview and write about individuals who made a contribution to improve the society in some way. We collect a series of articles drawn from all walks of life and put them together in a book titled " 50 ways to love India". We can include more stories, but lets start off with a goal of 50 stories that changed communities for the better.
These articles can be the personal struggle of individuals that we either read about or the popular ones that everyone knows about. IMO , if you give concrete examples of how a layman can contribute to society, its might inspire people more. We can highlight the efforts and 'catalog' them into a book. We can offer it as an E-Book for free (?) to various newspapers, organizations and individuals. It would be great if these stories are about regular people, but lets see.
If any publisher agrees or if any NGO agrees to fund the project, we can publish the book and donate the money to organizations like AIDINDIA , CRY or the like. We can also use the funds to sponsor a smal project in our cities.
I am not in India, but I would be glad to lead in some capacity. I can help in writing, editing, collecting articles, but i will definitely need help from you guys back home.
We can brainstorm and come up with a good way to start off the project.
This idea was inspired by a similar idea that was turned into a book in the U.S by moveon.org
Sincerely
Aejaz | | | | | | | |

gr8 idea boss...... right now it seems everyone has something or the other in mind & want to contribute to the society... can 1 of the moderators, pen down/move all the ideas at one place (we already have a thread for it) so tht in case a PG wants to contribute or start a similiar activity in his city, he has a central repository to get the ideas....

Hi there,
If anything is for India, I am all game for it.
I would say we can collect articles like that famous letter from Sudha Murthy to N. Murthy on their anniversary... Collect bios of people like Dewang Mehta...
And since there are quite a few people here who are good with english, we can sure compile them in an EBook.
I don't know any person who has wrked hard and made differnce but Indian history is filled with peple with humble beginnings who made it big by sheer hadwork. People like Ambani, Bachhan, VaypayeeJi, all were very common and have risen to huge heights.
Also we can talk about out brave soliders. Lets say for example Cap. Saurabh Kalra, we can find lots and lots of info on these brave men who were our age and gave in the ultimate sacrifice.
This is a super thing to do as almost every youth I know wants to move out of country. We should be encouraging more and more people to feel like Indians.

I am glad to see responses to my proposal.
Lets divide the book into categories.
1. Fight against Corruption - 10 stories ( who can forget satyendra dubey.)
2. People who work toward promoting religious understanding - 10 stories
3. Aid-India, Cry, etc...organizations - 10 stories
4. Students for India - 10 stories ( Students who made a difference..for example, i heard that a IIM -A (?) student ventured to start a school.
5. Are we thankful ? - 10 stories ( stories of soldiers , policemen)
Like i said, there are a hundreds of stories and hundreds of categories. but lets start with a goal of 50.
In some cases, it might be possible to reach the person personally. That would be really great. We can make a template of interview questions and interview them. Getting a first hand account will bring out more details than what we can get from newspaper or book articles. We can then outline his/her life in detail.
These people dont have to be a public figure. They could be someone who your parents know or someone that you know.
I can try to get the consul general (in houston) to write a foreword for the book.
Anyone have better suggestions, you are most welcome. So, lets take it one category at a time.
First Goal - 10 stories about the fight against corruption. ok?
lets do it
God bless

Hi
IF we want to show love for India, i think the first and foremost step is keeping India clean.. the environment we live in clean and worth living in.
We can start by correcting our own ways of living and reach this message to people around us.
