Who are India's youth icons ? - 29-04-2004, 05:26 PM

Hi ,

I was wondering last nite who do we ppl look upto. who all are famous youth icons. In MTV youth icon award last year 80 yr old Vajpayee was a runner up. Strange isn't it.
I'm wondering that if i set a limit of say 50 yr. for a young icon.
Who these guys are.

Do we really look upto ppl beyond cricketers & moviestars

Sachin Tendulakar, Dravid, sharukh, aishwarya , shouldn't we really look beyond them.

What do u say. who are the real icons of indian youth, they may not get the same publicity as cricketers or filmstars but they are the ppl we look up & feel comforted about.

Hiya....
though for attitude i look upto Dravid......
i dont think he gets much publicity

well for a real icon.....i dont kno how many miite agree but Sunil "Bharti" Mittal......is one great persona.....under whom Brand Airtel
operates.....

he is one who has vision ....for Indian telecom....
he is one who can put a challenge to Reliance....
cheap tricks to provide cheap telephony.....

plus he knows wat he wanna achieve and has his eyes set straight on the target.....
dat is his determination zeal........

he has provided the best telecom service....
till date......for him its always Consumer First...

Now that Sachin has been ruled out, Numero Uno name tht struck me was that of Sunita Narain (the pesti-cola lady), very next comes (again a lady) [b]Kalpana Chawla[/b ].

Sunil Mittal is another one, 'cos he himself struggled it out and got it, he didnt hv things presented to him on a platter by an already-illustrious dad. Dunno if he is of iconic stature, but me being a techie, n a cryptography buff, Ankit Fadia is another youth icon... at least for me.

PS:- Let's get a li'l lenient, Amitabh Bachchan is another youth icon, as he still fires, inspires, works n connects with the present-day youth.

Wot %age of ppl access (or used to, wen the book came up?) stuff like Phrack, buddy? I , for one, still hesitate touching such things as Phrack, simply b'cos my own system can be under threat... The common man (read Indian) got a glimpse of "far-reaching" consequences of hacking, as well as countering the same, n many minds were diverted to such n amazing world...

PS1:- No offences intended, pal

My picks:
Leander Paes:For the effort that he puts in.Win or lose a match never seen Paes give anything but less than a 100%.The best man to be on the Olympic podium for India.I once saw an interview of his on Harsha Online. The travails that he has gone through to become what he has is a lesson for any young man or woman alike. I have seen him dive full length at times when he was facing match point.Speaks from the heart and plays with his heart.Tremendous self-belief and fighter to the core.My numero uno sportsperson, personality and for the sake of this thread youth icon.
Amitabh Bachchan: True middle class upbringing. No one in the industry to champion his claim.Fought for every second of existence before he became a star in Mumbai. And after having hung up his boots coming back to bail out his company out of a financial mess.Doing it with elan and setting benchmarks of excellence for anchoring shows on TV.

Am a versatile player, can do anything... wrong!

hia..
yeah my vote would also go the mtv youth icon winner ANIL AMBANI but for sheer ability to fight back against odds mabbe Lance Armstrong but since we are looking for india's youth icon does that mean that the icon must be an Indian... if yes for sheer dedication and determination esp the kind he puts in for the nation it shoudl be leander paes....

politically i would look at arun shourie cuz he is able to defy so many people with what he thinks is right and also what i believe is right..... jagmohan is another politician i admire

adios
