valid and important point made there dude. the riggers wait till bout 4 pm , find out who all are gone for vacations in a particular building / havent voted in the day and then bogus vote

bous voting is not as hard as some people make it out to be - all u need is an identity card - here is the catch
the identity card can be a rail identity card made by pass holders . u can make one in 1 rupee without showing any documents . so anyone can be impersonated

There is a real disadvantage with this elec. voting system u know. In the old system, in case u dint wanna vote, u cud simply put the mark in between any two parties's emblem. So ur vote wont count and no other idiot can impersonate u.

Its amazing how human beings can just simply relinquish their right to vote. Maybe One vote by itself does or does not count...But in the larger scheme of things, we are talking of choosing the people who are going to make decisions that can govern EVERY aspect of our life. And that is a lot of power we are talking about...the power to change the way we live our lives, the power to use the money we give them in the form of taxes, tolls, the works...

Now there's a thought.. how do you feel about paying those innumerable number of taxes and its unaccountability?

*ponder*maybe I should start a poll on that.

well thats political complications i guess
ncp- congress does not want to mingle state politics with lok sabha . and they are justified in doing this actual time for vidhan sabha polls as well as lok sabha polls is december . vajpayee wanted to cash in on india shining and he is justified in that . but just becoz they are doing it doesnt mean that the DF combine has to do it

Very interesting point. I too believe that as long as we vote for parties rather than candidates, we shall never have the right to question why there is a criminal representing our constituency, why there is no development etc. etc.

But on the flip side, what if the candidate's party leader is either:
a. Not yet decided
b. Some1 I have no faith in
then what do I do? In this sense, I would prefer the American system. Elect your Prez and then your representative......would it work here? No idea. But the system in place today is a joke.

Yes Gary, I am indeed serious about that. Tell me, can you answer the query I raised? About the mismatch between the local MP and the PM? I, for one, can't. As far as the British system is concerned, our situation is too too different. The illiteracy, the backwardness, the total lack of information and awareness in the hinterlands.

The moment you split the elections for the leader and the representative, first things first, the majority will be happy with the leader. It's not like the Congress alliance comes to power and suddenly decides that Laloo or Mulayam, being pivotal in their calculations will be PM. In this system, that is immensely possible......how else could a Deve Gowda have become PM??? Was he voted for that?

Also, then let's say you want Vajpayee as your PM but feel that Sunil Dutt is better for your constituency. You can have that!! Also, it will dramatically increase the work the MP will do in the constituency! He will no longer be able to rely on the fact that since you want his party to win, you will vote for him. So, everything will be issue-based, like in the US, you have several bills which are co-sponsored by 2 guys, a Democrat and a Republican! Because they think alike on that issue. Would you ever see that in India?

Think over it! I may have missed out something, but I do honestly think this system is too flawed to be successful. What's the point of an election where I don't know who will be leading the country at the end of the day?????

Cheers!
Mike
