Was using google the other day on my laptop..For what else ? Diggin up some old PG thread of couse  Was watching 'Dog Fights' on History channel at the same time and wishing how great it would have been had I got to fly those awesome machines.. Just then a thought occured in my mind (which of course is trying hard to think something else apart from DI/Quant nowadays  ) : "What is the greatest technological achievement this century has seen? "...Is it the internet, is it this lappy I am using, is it google, is it the newer cars , mapping of the DNA , space travel? ?? what is it...
Is there some other achievement that my naive mind doesnt have a clue about??
Thought of opening a thread in PG and just see what the fellow Puys feel about it..So Puys please put in your thougts...What do you think is the greatest technological achievement of this century and why so??

I would say cellphones are the biggest technological achievement in the past 100 years. Because of these, communication amongst people has gone to the next level.
Internet, google and computers are indeed great inventions but had it not been a cellphone; the convergence would have a little difficult to happen. Today, we all know cellphone = talk, SMS, e-mail, computer, camera, videos, blogging and what not.

I would rate AIRPLANES as one of d biggest achievement of past century.
Flying amid of clouds, surpassing mach speeds, covering1000s of KM in few hours.
It has been a revolution certainly.

When i sit on the window seat of a kingfisher flt enjoying a movie and sipping my favourite drink...my mind starts racing and i realise the heights that this invention has taken us to...i land within 2.5 hrs in a place 4000 ks away...as if i was sitting in a palanquin and was suddenly reborn in a new land...

air planes...Cell phones... ??
i would say its the Internet..then its Google obviously or to be more specific the right to search information..
just imagine the way we r connected to rest of the world 24X7.. it really amaze me sometimes..& i really pity those ppl those school boys/gals in the rural areas who don't have the access of the internet..they loose out so much info... on education & happenings arnd the world..
Only proper information can empower us on our pursuit for a better world

I would definitely say telephone/cell phone and internet as the 2 greatest inventions.. The power of computer got compounded 50-1000 times due to internet. I guess the greatest invention in this century after Computers, airplanes is Artificial intelligence, human race has taken a big leap ahead, when it comes to artificial intelligence. I am thrilled at times when we discuss about our future. Usually anything new discovered has negative implications, and people tend to forget its positivities.
