Charity begins at home.. Truly it does..
We have all heard our moms nagging it out to us every morning, noon and night... We can always do our bit to make things easier for her...
At least keep those cups of coffee in the basin after we are done with it.. Fold the bed spreads and the sheets every morning after we wake up.. Switch off the lights and fans when not in use... Going easy on the AC consumption.. Arranging our study desks (mind u.. the most challenging thing for us and the most annoying for our moms)... What about those rancid cupboards with our clothes haunting that area like cob webs??
All these would go in a long way from making our moms happy to making the environment around us clean and congenial... Well lets first start from our own domains and move on to the rest of the world...
I'm trying hard to do all this.. :hurray:
Cheers,
Nish...
PS: On a personal front.. I have started meditating... Of course for self rejuvenation and progression.. JBR JBR JBR :hurray::hurray::hurray:

Re: What's the change you are going to bring today -

This is something that I have been doing for the past few years.
I am majorly into reading and I am proud to say that I have never purchased a pirated copy of a book/novel/novella in my life.
My dad was an author and he has a few published titles to his name.Every year, the royalty which we used to get was (and is) being affected by piracy. This made me realise the loss piracy causes to the publishing industry and the authors themselves.
Thus , I resolved never to buy a pirated copy in my life. It also gives me the satisfaction that the author is getting his due credit.Once, I even refused a gift from a friend who gave me a pirated copy.Though he felt bad initially, he realised it was a matter of principle for me.
A couple of my friends have started doing the same and I am really happy about it.:hurray:

Re: What's the change you are going to bring today -

Though am not flying today, but here is my take on flying ettiquettes!
I have seen people switching on mobile phones even after the steward has begged, pleaded them not to. Also , as soon as the plane touches the ground, everyone tries to collect their bag and rush towards the door..i can never understand why.
Two real life incidences worth mentioning here .
I - There was this girl sitting in front of me, and I could hear the beep of SMS couple of times during the flight. And as soon as the plane landed, she was on phone.
Me - Mam, how will you react if I try to kill you?
She - what ?
Me - You will call for help or hit me back , wont you?
She - Yes.. (more confused)
Me - Shall i hit you back then, since you are trying to kill me as well as other passengers on the flight by talking on phone?
She - <must have been thinking, this guy is a pagalguy, switched it off>
Me - Thanks. You look educated and sensible, dont do things which make you look otherwise.
II- Then you have people, who stand exactly at the gate of the bus which ferries people from the terminal to the plane and vice versa.Even if the bus is empty, they will hang around the footsteps.
SO there was one uncle, who was standing like that!
Me - Uncle, bahar latak jayiye na?
Uncle -
Me - Local train nahi hai..bus hai...anadar aa jayiye..its empty inside and help others.
By this time, others were laughing and I guess it was enough embarrassment for him to come inside and let others come inside in a proper way.
Just, sometimes we have to take the initiative.Good people do things when they see not so nice people doing things and getting away with it.And the evil spreads.
Good Morning!
Rohit

Agree with the post.
Though I do follow the other things mentioned this one is just too much for no reason at all. Seriously most of us trouble our mothers so much by not listening to such simple requests from them.

At office, every half an hour or so, we walk up to the water dispenser, fill up a (disposable) cup of water, and throw it away after drinking water. I suggest to everyone, to keep a bottle instead. Whenever you need water, just fill it up, and use it. It is great if you can use a bottle for multiple days, but even otherwise, a bottle a days, is far less than 5-6 cups a day.

Well..my parents have left today for a long trip...so starting today I've stepped in my mom's shoes ( I know the saying is sons stepping in their dad's shoes but its time to change! ) Not only I'm in charge of the entire house(mainly kitchen ) and need to shoulder many responsibilities...but also I'm going to get a taste of what my mom has been doing all these years..without any complaint! Hope...I stand upto my mom's expectations and make her proud!
Cheers

well i m very particular about cleanliness.i get annoyed when i see people throwing stuff on the road..we all want our country clean but nobody is ready to contribute..over the past four years i have made it a point to not throw any stuff on the roads, be it plastic bags ,plastic bottles ,tissue papers etc..even if i eat an ice cream i make sure that i keep the stick with me unless i find a dustbin...we all want our homes clean but what about the city in which we live ,people just do not want to contribute....i have also tried to inculcate this habit in my family members as well.during the the first instances they found it difficult but i made it a point to pick up stuff thrown by them and put it in the bin...this is one habit of mine i m seriously proud of....

Re: What's the change you are going to bring today -

Well friends..let me share an incident with you which really moved me..
I was returning home after writing XAT ...when I reached Kashmiri Gate bus terminous,I saw a big gathering...I stepped ahead and found an old man lying in a pool of blood! and lots of people had surrounded him.Shocked at the sight (he seemed to be dead),I moved on...soon I overheard two people discussing - "kya zamana aa gaya hain,wo marne wala hain par koi ek phone nahi ghumata! "
I asked them whom they were talking about..on learning that they were talking about the same old man and he was still alive...I rushed towards the gathering once again. I asked the people whether anybody had called the police but was SHOCKED to hear someone say - "madam...ye kabhi bhi mar sakta hain..police ko bulake kaun fasega? "
Without wasting a second..I informed the police..the van arrived within 2 minutes alongwith the Ambulance and took the man to hospital...hope he survived...the police didn't ask anything to me...just thanked me and took him to the hospital.
SO, MORAL OF THE STORY - Please don't think twice if it's a matter of life and death...if you get the opportunity to help someone in need..just go ahead and do it as life doesn't give a second chance!

Re: What's the change you are going to bring today -
17-04-2008, 01:10 PM
All..
I am not sure whether i can get this change done today, tomorrow or ever but yeah i wud love to see this change happen..
I was working in PwC Mumbai for 3 years..and now m working in ITC here in Chennai
The problem that i faced in the 2 so called Metropolitans was same..
Wats that ..Language used :(
In Mumbai i faced Gujurati n Marathi.
In Chennai m facing Tamil
I am not at all against ppl using their vernacular
but shoudnt people avoid it atleast in office or any get together where there are ppl from different parts of the country
The people who dont know the language feel left out, ignore, being avoided and wat not..It gets really agonizing for the people who cant understand wats going around them and that they are being left out. I have faced this both in Mumbai and facing this here in Chennai at my workplace
For that matter
Yesterday we had a meet in Chennai with 5 ppl knowing Hindi and 1 not
Wenever we were using Hindi the 6th guy felt so left out nd ignored (but we made sure we are reiterating everything to him in English  )
Though at our meets we make sure that we only converse in English
Hence Chennai PG meets are really rocking
I hope people understand this problem and start using the language known to every 1..if not the vernacular then English shud be used
I hope people take intitiatives at their place to get these difference narrowed
I hope i can convince my staff to speak only in English in office
Its all on hope
Cheers
MK

Kartik,
I won't deny that this occurs. I've grown up in Mumbai, and studied in Pune. Now, I know all languages that Mumbai speaks, so I won't have a problem. But then, there is an opposite to this as well, which I encountered in my MBA...
Here, there were lots of ppl speaking many languages - Marathi, Tamil, Punjabi, Bengali, etc. Even enough people speaking Kashmiri. But us Gujjus were left out. Just 3-4 of us, out of over 200. So it was an unspoken deal amongst us that whenever we spoke to each other, it would be only in Gujarati. Atleast that way we'd not lose sight of our language. People around us complained, but we still continued like that.
I've seen Maharashtrians grow up in Baroda. Their parents despair of their mother tongue - these people cannot speak Marathi for their life, but are quite fluent in Gujarati. Do that vice versa for Gujaratis I've met in places like Aurangabad & Latur.
It's not about languages. Its about communicating. If two people can better communicate in one language which is not the common one around, inevitably it will start. People outside that circle will face problems - who doesn't? One must face that. Remember, if you can't beat them, join them. Learn their language. Ask them what each word means, how you say specific things. Slowly, you'll learn their language. Also, a flipside will be that people around you realise that you don't know the language they speak, so will start speaking, around you atleast, in the languages you know.
Regards,
Grondmaster
