Re: Thank GOD I dont have an MBA :-) - 20-03-2008, 07:04 PM

I feel corporates are uselessly helping in mushrooming this growing b school menace. I mean i dont know why these HR people want mba for work in KPO?:

A B.COM from DU can do a far better job than a mba (fin) from a avg b school.in a kpo..

I mean MBA = " a program which inculcates in u the ability, confidence and hone ur skills so that u can lead from the front""

but whatz happening from apart from top 10-15 b schools, other mba when they get a job is of basic level with hardly anyone working under them:crazyeye:

this is not an mba and not what is expected from a mba program...

But in INDIA there is and always herd mentality syndrome...
For last 5 years it for btech(comp) and all btechs from other fields were looked down upon which i always found amusing ...ab dekh lo halat

but students also cant be faulted wholly

HR people r also responsible for the same who dont pick graduates for jobs which r meant for graduates and not mba so people have to get a mba degree to get a job...

ALSO I FEEL peple r feeling that mba(fin) can be a substitute of a CA/ICWA/CS/CFA but its not possible unless u r from top 10 b schools...:2gunfire:

Are waah... a good meaty topic after months and months of hibernation

hmm... after having had experience in Multiple Management Courses (BBA + MBA), having attended more than my fair share of 730 Days of Mangement Education. .... I can safely say its only a title one needs to get considered for an opening.

My take is.... if you know what you want from your Bschool (hopefully it doesnt end at a job offer) and you find a Bschool that offers the very same thing JUMP AT IT and fight for that seat.... till then keeep looking for that school....

Any takers for this view (which is personal again )

couldnt agree more ........
but problem is that indian education system has made students mugging-up duffer who dunno "Y they want to do MBA''.
more over the reason they comeup with are reasons like 'everyone is doin' and 'for good job and more money u got be a MBA"

this doesnt apply to top 15-20 Bschools guys cos they are smart (otherwise they cant score 99 %le in CAT ...... .... 95 is possible ... but 99 needs more smart work than hardwork).

but there are many colleges in india providing MBA degrees and people goin crazy behind them...... not knowing what they want from the MBA program.

Re: Thank GOD I dont have an MBA :-) - 22-03-2008, 01:55 AM

nice thread

Speaking as a former mechanical engineer and a current MBA, i'd say the CONS of doing an MBA are as follows:
1. You can't claim to be a un-MBA, like the way you conveninently are an un-enginner - do it once and you are mated for life - In comes Chardonnays (Sula?) & out goes your local brew, never mind the fact that you used to be a former champion beer guzzler in Chinatown

2. You always use more than twelve words where three will do (talk a lot) - Saying Goal! isn't enough, you just have to butt in with - oh! that sensational cross from the center-forward to the backward-center leaves the defenders stymied for... - oh crap! i hate football anyway..

3. You DO become another brick in the wall, deal with it. Yes, Microsoft makes money from you. Yes, you BUY original software, you erstwhile ersatz pirate :P

4. Forget about standing up against the man...you are THE man now. burn those Che T-shirts & get rid of that Skinhead tattoos. You are actually worried that Bear Sterns got sold for $2 a pop. Pathetic!

5. Your social life is ruined...when you meet old friends, the only flames that get kindled are the ones of Tax, Budget & stock-spread. Yes, the time of giggling over girls is quite behind you

6. Talking of the fairer ones, your social circle does have girls now, you clod. it's not the engineering college gang any longer. fisticuffs ARE no longer cool. Now stop staring you-know-where. that's not cool either
P.S>It's 2:08, i do need to sleep, in case someones wishes for more opinioated opinions, feel free to groan.

I thank my stars, that I am going to get one in about 12 months from now.

It is not about what degree you get, it is about the knowledge or rather the "learning" you mop up on the way along that counts.
Like mentioned earlier, in a majority of cases, the degree by itself only leads to opening up of a varied hues of opportunities for us. It is up to us how we go ahead from there....

Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils

Wel MBA is a more of a kind of necessity today than an educational enlightment....and i dont find anything wrong with it,if market demands that you have to have a basic qualification of an MBA so be it....and thats the truth and i dont think that only top 15 bschools are gud...does it mean that only those 10-15 bschools have a right to churn out mba's..?? with the economy growing at the rate it is we need to have many more iim's class institute and not just an exclusive club....

Re: Thank GOD I dont have an MBA :-) - 22-03-2008, 09:34 AM

Hi
spirit thats the basic prob that MBA has become a necessaity to get a job now. I mean When u do a mba when u gete a job it shd be that u must have some people working under u in that job.

but whats happening aprt from top 15-20 b schools , all the rest people in b schools just get a job in which not even 1 person is working under them.
This is pathetic and HR people r to blame for this.
Why on earth can they take a a simple commerce graduate who is good and not a mba(fin) from tier 3 college for a kpo job of fin analyst where he is mostly working on excel with no subordinates..

yaar mba ka fayeda kya hai agar tumhare under ko kam hi nahi kar raha hai..

Also people feel it is below their dignity to do a job after b.com and just go for a mba after graduation /btech in whicever college possible...

ps: its a misconception that there is lots of demand for mba in india.
demand is restricted to around 6000 mba only rest get very poor profile...

But i guess the whole system is there 2 blame rt from HR policies/media hype/ attitude of students...
