Post Credit Card - 07-03-2008, 06:16 PM

I have just started using CC. I was annoyed with the level of insecurity in using it. All three information required for any online purchase is static. One can easily memories and can be easily misused. I think they should add one nonce component to make it more secure as done in debit card. They should message the nonce...anyhow they expect us to have mobile. Is anyone feeling the same?
I dont understand why its so insecure?

Yes. It's indeed very insecure. But you can reduce the extent of potential damage by stripping of CVV and storing it somewhere. That way no one can do transactions online. Because online transactions don't need the physical card, anyone can do transactions with mere data on it. But if you can erase CVV, you would be a bit safe. But if you lose the card altogether, only god can save you.

At the age of 40 we don’t care what others think of us;
At the age of 60 we realize that nobody has been thinking of us

Even then its not secure. Anyone can easily see when u type. its jus 3 digit no and mostly its very simple no which can be easily memorized. One of my frnd happen to see my CVV no while i was helping him on his ticket, and now i m not trusting him.so thts why i m fellin more insecure

I also had similar concerns but the point is one has to be very careful while handling the CC.

I use HSBC CC extensively and they have introduced a concept of entering a password which is generated in the security device sent to the card holder. It gives a 6 digit number which refreshes every 15 seconds. Now if one loses that also, then I think that person should not keep a CC in the first place

well i guess, cc is for personal use ..so never use it for community purposes...also you can memorize the 3 digit cvv no. and paste a sticker over it in the card...so while shopping, we can give the card to the shopkeeper..and while doing online transaction ...make sure that other ppl are not seeing your password...btw i have citibank's cc...and while doing online transaction they require a unique password that too to be typed in an unique keypad which is not querty type...
well, i too think that another level of security will boost the confidence in cc and then its good for end customer like us...and also for the banking inst. also....
