I am not fond of Freud myself.. this book is called world's greatest dreams. Gifted to me by my sis
there is meaning in dreams by exploring the relationship between our dream content categories and waking thought and behavior. This is what people usually have in mind when they ask if dreams have meaning. They want to know if dreams reveal anything about a person's psychological make-up, especially anything not previously known or understood. As should be clear by now, we do think dreams have meaning in this sense of the term. We think dreams reveal people's conceptions, concerns and interests. It is important to understand people's conceptions because they are one basis for their actions in the world. It is important to understand people's preoccupations because they determine where people will expend most of their energies
the concerns people express in their dreams are the concerns they have in waking life. What they dream about is also what they think about or do when they are awake. We call this claim the "continuity hypothesis." Just as the "consistency hypothesis" characterizes our major findings on people's dream lives over the space of time, so too the "continuity" hypothesis summarizes what we have learned about the relationship between the dreaming and waking minds. Taken together, the consistency and continuity hypotheses are our major evidence for the overall "meaning" of dreams in the sense of (1) regularity and (2) correspondence with other psychological variables.
dreams are matter of huge debate, i'll probably start a separate thread for that.
some believe that dreams have real meaning and give us a glimpse of the subconscious. others ague that they are just a "cool-off" phase, where the brain lets go and things go haywire on neural circuits for a small time.
lets try and discuss this aspect too.
anyways, for those analysing dreams: a friend regularly, for a week, dreamt of a variety of situations where he got killed. this points to deeper problems or just passing rubbish?
well friends once i had this dream,
dat in the PG world i was reigning supreme,
well yes i was leading the whole team,
doing things according my own sweet scheme,
but then my dream broke with a scream,
when the mods came and i ran out of steam
hey guys, dunno whether i shud call it a dream, rather its wishful thinking...
wen i my books bug me par limit i generally shut my mind n start visualising where i would be in the next 5/10 yrs .... its more like where i 'want' to be....have been doin this since quite long n also managed to reach where i wanted to ...lets see if this wonderful phenomenon(of reachin the set place) continues in future....
