I got my hands on a ThinkPad R 400 a few days ago and must say that it is a very nice machine indeed. Quite the same computer as the T 400 and the entry level models on the T series.
Features that I fell in love with are the LED which allows you to work in the dark and the fantastic keyboard. I realised that it was for nothing that the ThinkPad is reputed to have the best keyboards in business. The computer is quite sturdy as well. To understand what I am driving at, flex the LCD monitor of any notebook and then give the ThinkPad a try. The roll cage and the carbon fiber do work. A 6 cell Li-ion is standard and it is a blessing.
On the down side, the R 400 doesn't have a good GPU and the Intel chip just about manages to keep the display crisp. And all that magnificent build does make it a tad heavy. But hey, I don't have to worry about being butter fingered

And oh, I can quite safely assume that not too many people are too fond of the ThinkPad styling.
Mine came with a P8400 C2D, 2.26 GHz, DDR3 1066 MHz RAM (3 GB) and a 5400rpm, 160GB HDD. Very nice configuration if you are not too avid a gamer, which sorely misses the ATI Raedon gpu in the T series. What is horrid about it, however, is the Vista Business it comes preloaded with. Vista can drive you up the wall and this close to the release of Win 7, there is no point in rolling back to XP.
cheers.
