PaGaLGuY Bulk Deal for Apple MacBooks 2008 - 07-02-2008, 06:12 PM

Dear all,

After a lot of dreaming and wishing, five of us from PG HQ are looking to buy Apple MacBooks and we're getting a good deal fro a Mumbai dealer. Here are the specs -

Apple MacBook
2.0Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
(2X512MB) 1GB RAM
80GB HDD
Combo Drive
Built-in isight Web Cam
13.3" TFT screen
Color: WHITE

1 year Warranty

Price quoted for 5 pieces is Rs 51.5k + 4 pc VAT =
Rs 53,560 per piece

Of course, the price would go down as the numbers increase.

Anyone interested? Please post here. Let's get a good deal for all of us.

Alternatively, if anyone can arrange a deal to beat this one, please let everyone benefit from it.

Cheers,

Edited: Price adjusted for Leopard system.

Lots of queries as of now..
hi, we had some of these concerns ourselves while we were deciding whether to buy a macbook here or not.

first, this model that we got a deal for is macbook base model. the configuration is great except for the 80GB hard disk. if you want more harddrive space then you can upgrade it to 120gb but it will be expensive. instead my personal opinion is to buy a 160gb harddisk with external casing for around 3k bucks and use it as an external harddrive which will be more comfortable and very inexpensive. hence 80gb isn't a hindrance for me buying a macbook.

macbooks range from 60k to 1.5lac . this model that we got the deal for is a base model which should be good enough for most of us. base model costs around 58k in india. so 50k for a bulk deal is not an unbelievably low price but the best we could get after contacting many vendors.

cost of 10 buyers ? we dunno. if more people are interested we can ask for a quotation for 10 pieces.

i will find out about the transportation charges and will post here soon.

Cheers,
Deepu.

Enjoy mates! I'm sure you'll love your MacBooks
I just got one for myself 2 months back when in US...got the 120GB, DVD RW model for 1300$
I feel in Inida MacBooks are bit overly priced...
Even though the above deal is a good one...you'll miss the DVD RW I believe...

yeah getting it from US is an option but then what about the 1yr warrenty in that case ?

yeah DVD RW is a missing feature.but i don't use it anymore. these days we are getting 4GB flash drive for 750rs. so instead of a DVD i use flash drive for data transfer purposes and an external hardrive for storage purposes.

so i am planning to buy 1macbook(52k)+4GB flash drive(750)+ 160 GB harddisk with casing(3.25k) which although amounts to 56k gives me all i need atleast for 2 years and the comfort of having an external HDD and an easy to carry flash drive.

Deepu, I have a 2.2GHz MacBook Pro, purchased in the US, and can assure ya that Applecare is valid globally. I have spoken to the support folks in India on this and they have also assured that the extended applecare (valid for two more years and purchaseable anytime in the first year) is valid globally and can be purchased anywhere in the world. It doesn't make sense to buy applecare in India. Search for a good deal on eBay

And yea, good decision all ye folks, on the switchover to Mac. Made that switch around 8 months ago and have no regrets since....

Cheers

Thumbs up Re: PaGaLGuY Bulk Deal for Apple MacBooks 2008 - 10-02-2008, 08:51 PM

What a coincidence.. I have just finalised I want a MacBook and I see this thread!!

But is it possible to have a customised to order macbook? I want to buy the second model (xx62) with DVD R/W, 2 GB RAM and 160 GB HDD updgradation..
One of my friend in UK can bring it for me and it will cost me around 64K (after VAT rebate)
Only thing is he is coming back in March end.. and i would like to have it sooner..
A similar deal here (say upto 67K) and I am in..

btw when are you planing to place the order? nd is 52K the total amt payable or are any other costs to be added?
