Re: What Is The Problem With India ? - 07-02-2008, 02:09 PM

A couple of posts and tempers flaring already... The problem is that of tolerance. Such caustic remarks and personal attacks show that we as a nation -instead of discussiong the problem- are wired to prove our point as right and all others as wrong.

@apurv - the importance of this forum is of generating awareness without bias. Media is our only source of info and it cannot always be trusted (mny are bound by govt regulations and some running only to propogate the views of a few political parties)

Maybe and only maybe, we can see a diffent picture here- like u said bout the real reasons of farmers suicides. Till now evn i subscribed to the economic times point of view coz it was the only one. What u said, i may not take at face value, but atleast i can consider the problem from a new viewpoint. U can enlighten us on the real issue of farmer suicide since u hv been personally affected by it and I can on some other issue that i wud hv been associated with closely...

It will not result in any concrete action - agreed - but if we can study the problem in whole we will be much more informed and much more motivated to (maybe) do sumthing bout it - if not today, maybe tomorrow, maybe never.

----
Lots of maybe, but that was jst for precaution...

A nice turn of events - but i think by bringing in the sex angle, we would only push the blame on one party, when the other is equally culpable. Power and greed corrupts each equally. Its jst that females hv not have had enough opportunities, else they too mite/would have evolved similarly.

What is the problem with India?

India is a young country.
We are just 60 years old and aroung 450 million of our population is below 24 years of age.(Please chk the figure)...

So if we can give a country like USA,time which has been free and on her path for 200 years,I think we ought to give India her time also.

The problem I think not lies in our doings but in what we do.
We as a nation lack a VISION.
There is no driving force which binds us all together towards a common goal.

See from the past, whenever we are united(by Kings or leaders) we have ruled the world or beaten it...

Take for example---Ashoka,Gupta Dynasty,Akbar period and lately Mahatma Gandhi's quest to unite the country...

These were periods where the whole country came together under a single umbrella and for a common cause...

Ancient kings should be given due credit for this unification.
Their motives may be imperialistic in nature but they helped us a nation.
They had a vision for a United India...

Mahatma's success was largely based on this.He gave masses at large a Vision.
When even a poor farmer from deep pockets of rural India knows that British are evil and driven out of this country, naturally his Karma(all his energy is concentrated towards that vision)...

We got united and we got Freedom.

Alas!Due to vested political interests(will write more on this),again divisons were there and we could not progress.

As there was not a defined path for us as a Nation to take,it took to confusiona and chaos.

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam did try and gave us India 2020 vision.
And see all our Govt policies are directed in that way.
If China can do it by vision of Mao,why not India?

So I agree in Principle with Hameed that we need Thinkers.
But what Apurv is saying becomes more relevant in this case as we need thinkers who know the Ground Realities. They should not be the ones who are sitting in plush corporate rooms but should be ones who have risen from the masses, who have seen it and understand the problems.

I would have expected more from Dhirubhai Ambani to do for masses than his sons because he was there with Bharat, while his sons were always in India....

Much more can be said on what went wrong and how we can recitify our follies.
Lets keep pouring...

The King will Return...

Re: What Is The Problem With India ? - 07-02-2008, 04:10 PM

we all know what are major problems in india like illiteracy, corruption, mismanagement in handling population, resources etc.... but what i feel that the main problem lies in taking initatives. like if we are blaming politician for his all wrong doings then i think in some manner we too are responsible for that by either casting the vote for him or by buycotting polls. we often say that poor and illiterate people are wooed by witty politicians. but what about educated people like us?? how much we are contributing in electing right person?? how many of us used our voting rights in elections? here by elections i am not talking only about loksabha or state assembly but also about local panchayats, mayor's election etc. now someone might produce an excuse by saying that reason of not casting his vote to anyone is that there is no single candidate having desired qualities. for this i wud say that why cant we getinto the system and help india..we could enter the system not only by political ways but also by attaching us to india's administrative, military or civil services. by this i dont want to say that u should always aim for c.m of the state or prime minister. today if we are confident of running organization of 100 crores then we also should feel confident of running a country of 100 crore people.by this i dont mean that we should always aim for becoming chief mininster or prime minister, u could help in eradicating corruption at very basic level. as a matter of fact 2 years back a group of iitians and du students form a party of their own. although they havnt performed well in elections but they dont lose patience and by each passing year they are spreading their party's name and its agenda.
thus i would like to conclude that no nation is perfect and its good that we know our area of weakness. so what are we waiting for, lets join hands with eachother to come forward and helps in making india a superpower of 21st century

Well I think you have oversimplified it ( and thereby taken a little joy out of me preparing the theory on this thread!). Its not that I blame sex " as a gender" but sex as procreation and/or fornication.

And, yes the fairer sex is proven to be biological superior and far more ruthless then men (this remains to be proven). So given a matriarchal societal structure we can't say for sure whether things would work or not.

p.s: I am a liberal and an agnostic - dont try this at home!

I think what we need is a stuctured approach towards feasible solutions for the problems that we see around us. The issues range from- Education, Corruption, Poverty, Social divide and other core issues, all interconnected - the many heads of the one Hydran-monster. In days to come (starting tomorow) I hope to be able to discuss on each of these issues herein and the possible courses of action.

I hope this thread grows into a neat body of referrable work that enriching all its participants in some way, rather than pages and pages of repeated arguments. [ I have read many threads which have gone that way]

I call for all those who read to contribute too, if you read anything unnacceptable, or you feel something isnt being given fair attention, then please do poke your nose .

Meanwhile, I am waiting, rapt in anticipation, for the "Sex Theory"

Rock on!

THE THEORY OF SEX
(and how I relate everything to it)

PART I
SURVIVAL

Since the beginning of time man (human beings and otherwise) has had two guiding instincts that were subliminal, yet, surfacing often enough to ensure the survival and growth as a species. Survival and Sex (as in procreation), has been shaping the course of our ancestors ever since we took our first steps on our hinds (or since Adam gave a rib to Eve).

The funny thing about survival – as long as your survival isn’t threatened, humanity and morality exists in abundance. The moment survival of any animal or human is in question there are no limits to what it can do. Why is survival so important to the sex theory you may ask? Well let’s look at history. Some tens of thousands of years ago – humans finally discovered agriculture and that in effect reduced their anxieties of survival. With survival taking a back seat (yet lingering about) humans were allowed to concentrate on other things (such as society, arts, etc.)

It would be about this time with the conception of the organized society that sex became something more than just a species attempt to procreate and keep the flock going. Survival instincts are still rampant – but under a different guise. The fear is now not of a mammoth or how and where the next meal is going to come from, the fear is of each other. Who will be more successful? Who will be the best provider? Who will have the means and the time to raise a family? Who is father/mother material?

Society has molded the age old alpha male characteristics under the guise of materialism. Survival is no longer about the ability of one person to stay alive – but how well he/she fits in the society. What was once a physical exercise - has now become a mental one!

P.S:
  1. Thought I would break it up into two parts.
  2. Second part coming up.
  3. Be gentle on me.
  4. Am not including the religious angle in the sex theory for fear of bodily harm.
  5. Looking forward to questions.
Cheers!

Re: What Is The Problem With India ? - 08-02-2008, 09:21 AM

guys,

One thing I find that has changed a lot these days is, we as a nation seem to be getting intolerant inwards (there are too many to cite) and obscenely tolerant outwards (to Bangladesh and China).

I once thought that the USP of India was tolerance. But we seem to have taken it to new and weird levels....

I am intolerant of people are who are intolerant. Perhaps the biggest problem is people have to be told where and what to be tolerant and intolerant off?

Re: What Is The Problem With India ? - 08-02-2008, 11:15 AM

well there a lot being discussed here at to wat is it thats holding us back...as it was rightly pointed out the media here in india is not up to the mark...there r times i feel that our media caters to sub-IQ ppl; with the kind of utter non sense reporting that we c aired by these news channels...they say a picture speaks a thousand words...just have a look at wat one of the so called 'number 1' news channel which also claims to be 'Sabse Tez' has reported as breaking news ....

The point m trying to drive home is the media it seems lacks the understanding of wat makes good news...its all out to air the most popularistic news so as to up their TRPs...its playing to the whims n wishes of the people by giving them wat they ask for rather then telling them wat they need to know...they need to understand that this is wat separates, to a large extent, media and entertainment...wat we r seeing here is n encroachment of media into the entertainment domain

the other point that comes to my mind is their style of reporting...an example to this case would be the reporting of how greg chappell showed the middle finger to the media...one the the news channel played this clip over n over again for hours...wat purpose does it serve...

all n all i feel that the media here in India need to grow up and behave more responsibly...they need to understand that with rights come responsibilities..its should know that rather then sensationalising issues they need to report the facts
