Hi all.. featuring an article on Carbon footprints.. article extracted from wikipedia.

A carbon footprint is a "measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of green house gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide"[1] It is meant to be useful for individuals and organizations to conceptualize their personal (or organizational) impact in contributing to global warming. A conceptual tool in response to carbon footprints are carbon offsets, or the mitigation of carbon emissions through the development of alternative projects such as solar or wind energy or reforestation. A carbon footprint can be seen as a subset of earlier uses of the concept of ecological footprints. The average UK carbon footprint is 9.4 Tonnes Per Person.

Attached is a details version.. Sorry puys but cudnt do the editing part n summary

Re: Regionalism in Mumbai - 08-02-2008, 10:12 AM

Mumbai is feeling the pressure of regionalism when a clash occurred between supporters of Bal Thakeray and Samajwadi Party. It stemmed from Navnirman Sena Cheif Raj Thakrey' s recent outburst against Bollywood star Amitabh Bacchan loayity towards his native place Uttar Pradesh

Now Do such incidents trouble our daily activities, financial transactions, business and normal life? Above all , is it right to let it go in largest Democracy of world? Isn't it dent our image of INDIA AS GLOBAL OFFICE?.

After independence Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel consolidated all parts of india to make as UNIFIED INDIA. It means anybody can travel anywhere for occupance, employment, food etc. Now If somebody from MAHARASHTRA dont like people from BIHAR, UP , it dilute the purpose.

That is what Raj Thakrey is doing. His argument is people immigrating to Mumbai should be from developed states, so that there is less immigration.

Considering his arguement it seems obvious that he is just igniting the crowd and completing his purpose to be in limelight. On the other hand, AB is doing wonder in bollywood. While whole movie industry is on doldrums, he is making it alive. Giving employment to several technicians, writers etc in indirect way.

Re: Baba Amte : The real hero - 09-02-2008, 02:12 PM

The recent death of Baba Amte shocked many in Maharashtra, especially for persons (suffering from leprosy) for whom he bought love from society.

Making things simple, he walked the path which was full of thorns all his life. Baba was healer, saint, a man with magical touch for despondent. He devoted his entire life for fight for leprosy and that made him true representative of humanism.

A trained lawyer by profession, Murlidhar Devidas Amte, also fondly known as Baba Amte was born in Wardha district of Maharashtra on 26 DEC, 1914.

He left his profession in order to cure people suffering from leprosy. He even to permitted to use his body in order to cure the disease.
He launched BHARAT JODO movement in 1985 from JK to kanyakumari and also raised environmental awareness among people.
In 1990 he fought for Narmada Bachao aandolan for people suffering from the construction on Dam on the river.

He was awarded Padamshree in 1971 and Rashtra Bhushan in 1978 for his work towards society.

MAY HIS WORK ENLIGHTENS OUR HEART TOWARDS OUR OWN PEOPLE OF MOTHERLAND.

US downturn to hit hardware more than software - 11-02-2008, 07:37 AM

With fears of a U.S. recession bearing down on technology companies, the sector's safest bets appear to be in business software, while makers of computers and consumer gadgets look vulnerable.

John Chambers chief executive of cisco systems says "CEO's in US and Europe are more cautious than ever. A market researcher said if the recession happens than it will not affect all sectors equally. Initially PC's and operating system s/w market will have adverse affect.

Experts say prospects for Software firms to ride out recession is better as they increase efficiency, but for hardware biggies(Dell, HP, Intel AMD) manufacturers its ain't so. Cost effective firms now tend to use hardware to the extent of breakdown.

A tech research firm forecasts global spending on business software to grow 8.2 % this year, which is more than twice as fast as estimated hardware sales growth of 3.4%.

Yahoo to reject Microsoft's take over bid: Report - 11-02-2008, 10:17 AM

Yahoo's board has decided to reject Microsoft's unsolicited USD 44.6 billion bid to take over the Internet giant, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday, citing "a person familiar with the situation."

The company's board believes that Microsoft's offer, at USD 31 per share, "massively undervalues" Yahoo, and that it does not account for risks facing Yahoo if it pursues a deal that might be ultimately blocked by government regulators, it said.

"Yahoo's board believes that Microsoft's is trying to take advantage of the recent weakness in the company's share price to 'steal' the company," the newspaper said on its Internet site.

"Yahoo's board appears to be betting that Microsoft doesn't want to 'go hostile' and try to acquire the company against the wishes of management and the board," it said.

The Journal said that Yahoo will notify Microsoft on Monday of its decision.

here is an updated report:
Yahoo formally rejects Microsoft's takeover offer

Yahoo Inc has formally rejected Microsoft Corp.'s $44.6 billion takeover bid as inadequate. The response had been expected after Yahoo's intentions were leaked over the weekend.

Yahoo's rebuff raises the stakes in a battle involving two of the world's most prominent technology companies.

Many analysts expect Microsoft to raise its offer by $5 billion to $12 billion to entice Yahoo to sell. Yahoo is believed to want a bid of at least $56 billion, or about $40 per share.
